Grand Vitara V6 Economy

Hi guys, we are looking at purchasing a GV to replace our Lancer, i will keep the patrol for now but this may eventually replace it as our 4wd. We like the V6 purely because of the ride and the auto (i do like the diesel though). The only thing that is putting me off the V6 is the fuel economy, they state it as being about 10.5-10.9 but ive heard in reviews that its more likely to creep up around 14.

Anyone have any real world figures, interested in city/hwy combined.

I had a 2000 V6 GV auto. Around town driving easy I would get from 10 to 11. On a run fully loaded including 4 in the car I would get around 14. On a run on my own I would get about 9.5 to 10.5.
On sand, well lets just say it's always more. I never really did a test on the sand but I would guess about 16ish.

Is that the same engine as the latest model V6? Those figures look good to me, only other thing i can think of is that the new body is heavier

i have a 2004 v6 and thrash it but i get about 12L per 100k and 10 when i behave but thats not often and i always had very good econamy on the beach, most times the same or better than on road, mine is a manuel.

I also have a 2000 2.6 GV, with a 2inch raise and Cooper STT's I get around 11-13 around town and I'm not a grandma driver. Aircon adds about 1 to the figures.
The new V6 GV is a 2.7 and its much thirstier but also has considerably more power. Figures around 12-15 would be expected.

lately been changing gv diff ratios to 5.1...getting about an extra 100k's to a tank.

2004 XL-7 -> same 2.7 litre V6 and 5 speed auto as the current model and similar body weight.

Average in the suburbs is just a smidge under 14l /100km- not driving it slowly. I'd be banking on a figure around that and anything better count it as a bonus.

those figures dont sound good. Might have to convince the mrs that we should get the diesel, just a shame its a manual as we would really like an auto

How many km do you do? Unless you do a lot it probably won't cost you that much more realistically speaking. I'm using around 3l/100km more than my old Feroza- so under $5 extra per 100km (using $1.50/ litre purchase price.) Hardly a huge expense.

The price of diesel is sky rocketing- and with a more expensive purchase price and (possibly?) dearer servicing costs the advantages of a diesel are not so clear now. Diesel price doesn't get discounted as much as petrol either.

Some reviews also aren't so glowing about the low down torque of the new diesel.

We would do around 400km in a week. I have a spreadsheet to calculate total monthly costs and am taking diesel price etc into account so i will see how it comes up

we currently have a diesel vit at work for r&d....must say i was impressed with its performance...low down torque was pretty good!
