auto for comp car..whats strong
after running into some auto troubles a TTC i am starting to do some research while im getting the old ones problem diagnised!!
i might need to replace the auto in my bundera to something else than the standard auto from behind the 1UZ-fe.
i am after something that is going to be strong and isnt going to cause me grief when the vehicle is put in steep angles, and most of all will be reliable.
i have herd from a few people that maybe a C4 is the way to go??
a mate a work recommended to use a powerglide.
the car is going to be used on road now and then which also might be a contributing factor to which box!
im not sure what others are using in their rigs and buggies but ill need to mate it up to a LT230 transfer.
any info and help would be greatly appreciated!!

With running the LT230 the easiest way would be to run the Disco ZF auto in front of it. This is the Auto that has now been in my old buggy for 4 years without a single issue and has been abused at every chance. Although i dont know of an addapter to bolt it to the lexus V8.
There really is no adapter commercially made to adapt anything to the LT230. Haultech could make one to mate a T700 to it but you need to sort out your own shifter for the LT230. And then your going to need a V8 T700 and an adapter to your Lexus V8.
You dont want a glide in a street driven 4WD. They need a heap of gearing to get them to work.

You could adapt the C4 to a Cruiser case. Or again use the T700 which has a lower first gear than the C4 but is more expensive to buy and re-build and adapt it to a cruiser case.

C4 would be my choice.
are you sure no one makes an adapter to rangie case? i've seen a few C4's with rangy cases on ebay (unless the LT230 is different kettle of fish, then disregard my advice). was thinking about them for the 40 running a ford motor.

Plus with reduction gears the LT will be at around 5:1.

i must be in the old with the leavers!! also would i need an airtank for all those rams?? and lockers?? i only have the locker compressor (little one)

Easy to make a small say 2 lt tank and run another compresser as i am unsure if the little compreser will be up to it as i think they are for lockers only.
Again i know i am mentioning Kneck but he should be able to hook ya up with a built C4 cheaper then the $1400 you have mentioned. Shop around as youll find thats a little steep. When looking for a C4 try find one with a 9 bolt Valve body as i have been led to beleive off a few auto blocks that they are the better ones to get.
Once all done mate you will have an awsome bloody truck in my opinion as the finished result now looks awsome and kneck did do a good job on it from the pics so was worth the wait.

i am now looking at the logistics if its going to be possible to run the engine and g/box as a dry sump setup so angles will never be an issue!! just toying with ideas untill i find out exactly what happened to this auto...

Evan if room permitts it wouldnt be hard to take an old oil pan off a C4 and extend the depth to make it deeper so oil capacity is increased.
Look for an oil pick up off say a 727 torquflight and extend the tube and mount it in the C4. You could just buy an extended pan and pick up though off the shelf. If closely monitered though i doubt youll have issues as the few at the moment who run C4s havent seemed to have issues yet and i think they are all standed pans.

I like the idea of running dry sumps and it surprises me that alot of guys dont run it on comp rigs, we used to run them in speedcars years back when the engines where layed over on big angles or completely on there side to make sure they wernt sitting down low.evanstaniland wrote:

Whichever way you go a good place to start would be to get kevlar bands, stronger case? (Ultra Case), deeper pan (or the dry sump idea), good set of planetary gears never hurts either (not very nice when they go crunchy crunchy)
Quiet possible to build one bulletproof, it just depends on what your willing to spend...
