salisbury axles

Hi, just wondering what the go is with salisbury axles, i have found a set 2nd hand and wondering if they just a brand out of salisbury diff or they aftermarket axles?
Are they better, hardened etc?
Is there any reason that makes them better than the ones i have and i assume they would fit my diff, an early series 2 diff.

salisbury is a different type of axle to normal rover type, also 24 spline. I believe the axle shafts themselves would not fit into a rover housing, even if you had a 24 spline centre, different lengths.

To add to what bigbad posted.

Salisbury has larger hypoid CW&P compare to spiral bevel CW&P in rover diff. So Salisbury are much, much stronger, gearwise. Jackmac can upgrade the salisbury from 24 spline to 35 spline axles (for strength comparable with the gears.

Wheel track is smaller for series rover, compared to the coil sprung rovers (not sure about the stage 1).

Stage 1 has exactly the same track as a normal series. I think it is about 55" (and a RRC is 61" WMS).
