Tips for making Petrol Hilux more water friendly

Post by hellfire »

My 89 Hilux has been through a bit of water, but usually it gets water in either the sparkplugs, dizzy or somewhere else lol.

But yeah, after I go through water it idles roughly and splutters a bit so I have to rev it for about a minute before it gets back to normal.

How can I make it more water friendly? And I don't want a diesel.

Lots of CRC over the whole engine before you go into water.
If you get real fancy you can plumb an air line into your dist cap and pump a couple of psi into there when going through water.
Siliconing up stuff can work but often makes things worse as if any water does get in its harder to get out.

Lanolin spray.
Top quality leads, with very thick insulation.
Find the holes in your dizzy, all of them, and consider breather options for it.

The only way to make it more water friendly is to get a diesel.

I replaced Everything on the iginition side of mine and whilst it made it a lot better in keeping the water out, it doesnt matter what you do you will always have a few idling issues after your drop your car deep in mud/water
