Best size tyres for NH Pajero

Post by muldrock »

Hi all
I am looking to get new tyres for my NH Pajero and have decided to go a bit bigger, so thought I'd ask all in the know what is the best size. My NH has been wound up at the front and has 530mm from centre of wheel to guard lip, and the rear is leaf sprung with lengthed shackles giving 550mm from centre to guard lip. I do plenty of beach work and want to start doing some outback tracks so am looking for an all round usage. Any suggestions on tyre brands is also welcome.

tyres

for a cheap, good performer i had the nankang mudstars in a 33x12.5x15. I rekon they were good because they didnt quite measure up to the actual size, a little smaller, so more like a 32x11.5x15 and seemed to be a good tyre for the little shortie paj. 31"s are a good size, 33"s easy enough to fit if you want that little bit bigger.

any traditional tyre will do the job, mtrs, coopers, maxxis, whatever. Youll get a thousand different opinions of a thousand different people, try soemthing you know someone has or you like. I went a little bit different with my newest tyres just to give them a go, and i love them, maxxis trepadors, they dont make a 33" but do come in a 31". Also depends on style of driving, and how many kms you do on what surfaces. Either way iv had M/ts for the past 2.5 yrs and its a daily driven car.

then you can run up to 33s without too much loss of power etc...

yeh 4.875 or 4.88s whatever, youll be right for up to about 34"s i rekon. I ran 33" with 4.625 always thinking i had 4.88s until just before i sold it and figured it had 4.625. All that time i didnt think the gearing was too bad and it drove well on road, i just never checked.

my old shorty was a gl but it had coils, some of the gen 2 shorties have leafs too though, usually the ones with the poo brown interior, yours got this too???

Thanks heaps.
When you ran the 33" did you have any probs with scrubing?
No mine has grey trim with like a check black and grey insert (similar to the early holden) it must be nearly the first run of gen II build date Feb 91.

34s might be a tighter fit tho, then you would need to get correct offset rims etc.. to make sure you dont get too much scrubbing etc..
i dont think he would want to cut his guards either.

also the only 34" i know of would be a JT2 and thats more of a 35" anyway

33"s

Post by klrevo »

my 33"s were on cruiser offset 15x8 sunnies. never scrubbed. some say patrol is a better offset.

but yeh no scrubbing, just meant that you should be sweet with 33"s running 4.88s.

Excellent
Thanks a lot for the info, hard to get now days.
Was lookin at a set of MAXXIS BIGHORN MT-762 33/12.5X15 TYRES and the guy said they wouldn't fit, now I think he might be wrong. Am already running a set of sunraiser 8" rims running 235's and they are just protuding from the guard so they are offset out quite a bit.
Thanks again Denny

just ask for some cruiser offset sunnies when you get the tires,
should only charge you $50 a rim
