gen 3 fuel consumption

Post by killalux »

does anyone have any figures on fuel consumption of a gen 3 in either a patrol or 80 series???
With fuel getting close to $1.50 a litre i am considering staying with the standard 4.5 with a turbo on gas.

I have had the gen 3 give 12 litres per 100 km just cruising around in a Commy.

They are a more efficient engine than the patrol 6 but at the end of the day by the time you add the cost of conversion it is going to be a long time before you see any financial rewards.. if any.

If you are concerned of the price of fuel hitting a buck fitty then you don't want to do a Gen III conversion!
The Gen III will use less fuel but the cost of the conversion will buy for FARRRRRRRRRRRRRR more fuel than the conversion will save you. Oh and that's if you drive the GenIII economically, which is hard to do!

Why do so many people buy an engine for fun and try to justify it with the falce econamy

I just put a 1hdfte in my sahara and it goes better and faster (and its only running dead standard tune, boost and exhaust. Ive worked out it will take about 60,000k's to cover the cost (2 years) going on my current fuel econamy, and thats not even driving it nicely. When i chip it it will go even better and still have econamy.
I know its not the same sort of power as a gen3 or turbo petrol and some guys just hate diesels but it iw worth a thought

If i had have kept the 1fz in the 80 i would have put a turbo on it and ran injected gas, lots more power to atleast try to justify the pathetic fuel econamy they get
1hd-fte 5 speed tiptronic 105 series
78 series troopy for work
gu ute play truck For sale
FTE 80 series sahara Sold

i think i have a problem

I am not doing the conversion to save money on fuel, i want the extra go. I am just trying to decide between the Gen 3 running on fuel, or the 1fzfe with a turbo on gas. The 1fz i am working on around 3km/L on gas with turbo, i get between 2.8 and 3.4 now. So if the gen 3 gets around 6km/L on fuel I am no worse off.

The gen 3 won't be much more dollars than to turbo the 1fz, but i think the gen 3 will be more reliable because it is running standard, not boosted, plus the option of blowing the gen3 down the track for more grunt.
