lock rite
lock rite
today i got offered a lock rite and diff gears for $300 i did a search and read all about the advantages over an open centre blah bla bla, what i would like to no is at the moment i have a lsd in mine and these lockrites seem to be much the same principle to me, unlocking under harder pressure am i right or am i totally wrong, and if they do would the difference be worth the hassle for 300 plus install

If you mean the locker it should stay locked so it gets you over the rock.McGyver wrote:i haave transfer gears which are awesome i was just wonderin how they worked, would it open if one wheel came off the ground and the other was on rock

A little off topic but, whats your opinion of the lowrangeoffroad/calmini LSD's.joeblow wrote:if you have a zook with a slippery keep it...and maybe go the diff gears too......
I'm looking at one for my Vit rear as I can't afford an air locker and can't put in an autolocker (loclright etc) as the mrs drives it daily onroad.

An LSD will NEVER perform as well in difficult off road conditions as a locker.
Have a lockrite in the farm ute (hilux) rear, it's noisy, sometimes locks up then lets go with a thud in car parks. But it works and was $700 cheaper than an ARB air locker.
Even a very tight LSD will slip when one wheel is in the air and the other is jammed up. A locker will provide equal drive to both wheels in this situation.

No idea just throwing the idea out there as I have no interest in lsd's, lockers are where it's at. Of course the other option is to swap to some 26 spline Double Tough's from Trail Tough which are on sale at the moment for USD$239.

Yes if you city drive it all your life.... But if you want to actually go out and crawl or do proper 4WDriving then the Locker is better and it'll last far longer than a LSD, and the LSD will eventually need re-shimming and will just be a one wheeler like every other standard zookjoeblow wrote:from what i've seen of SUZUKI lsd's u will be much happier with an lsd than with a lockright. it will last longer and be a whole lot better to drive on. and there is a reason why suzuki lsd's are so expensive compared to lockrights...the lsd's are quality[atleast the jap ones i've come across!].

So are they ramp loading like a GQ or clutch type like a toyota? I thought they were clutch type and therefore useless in actual offroad conditions.

I'll openly say that i haven't. Have had Toyota LSD's, they suck. Have had Chev LSD's they are OK on the road. Have had Nissan LSD's, OK off road in light to medium work.joeblow wrote:hands up who has had on in a zook?.....
LSD's are no where near as good in difficult off road conditions as lockers. The Eaton Electric locker/LSD would however be sweet.
