Jimny's any good?
Well whatever happened it seems he's not interested in Jimny's anymore:

Or maybe Pajero's

Or perhaps a Patrol

Or is it a 60 series he's after?

No wait! its a Discovery

Sorry, its actually a 4skinner

and the list goes on.
esp22, seriously man, get out there and drive some of these. You'll soon find what suits you and what doesnt. Ask yourself what you want from your 4x4 and search around. There's plenty of options, one of them is bound to suit you.

I'm currently looking for another Jimny... the X-90 is not really practical for two people on a weekend away...
So, if anyone wants an X-90 with $10,000 worth of gear on it (and it would all fit a SWB Vit) - happy to sort a swap for a Jimny - listed on Carsales.com.au
DRS smells like a cat-food milkshake... and wet socks... and gorgonzola cheese... all whizzed up in a blender
I know exacly how strong a sierra driveline is Arief, but also that all the HD stuff that is available for them.... and not for the jimny.a reef wrote:e .they are not strong as you think
I'll stand by my point - A jimny is no stronger than a sierra (and maybe, in some areas, weaker) but a jimny is potentially harder on its driveline and harder to upgrade.

And that's part of the problem. The balance between lift, rim offset, scrub radius, tyre diameter and width is very hard to get right.

Just fix it with lux diffs and a springover. It'll be unstoppable then.Gwagensteve wrote:And that's part of the problem. The balance between lift, rim offset, scrub radius, tyre diameter and width is very hard to get right.

Tell me more about this spring over for a coil spring car... I was wanting to lift mine more, i thought i had to replace the springs. Are you saying that i can just install another spring on top of the existing coil?v840 wrote:Just fix it with lux diffs and a springover. Are there workable options Steve? I've never looked closely under the guards of a Jimny to see how much metal can be removed or plastics modified. I would want to stay with minimal lift.Gwagensteve wrote:And that's part of the problem. The balance between lift, rim offset, scrub radius, tyre diameter and width is very hard to get right.
Steve.
Driveline breakages seem to all be diff/axle related so with say, a bundera diff swap this potentially could be solved (QLD engineering legalities yet to be checked), but hardly worthwhile clearance-wise considering I only want to run 31-32in worth of tyre.
I was starting to consider a Jimny buildup (instead of replacing the rusty body and putting an EFI motor into my WT) thinking a bit of extra luxury inside the cab, air con etc, more wheelbase and power steer might be a nice bonus. The plan is this would be more of a dual purpose, road friendly car than my current zook is.
A Jimny build would allow fitting some of my WT parts (6.5 transfer) that buying a vit would mean I couldn't do.

Really? I would have said a 44 would have been at least as big and heavy as a hilux diff.a reef wrote:hi back from dinner . i know that steve .dana less weigh than lux + ground clearence way taller. just my 2 cent
IMHO only Americans rate Dana diffs. IMHO they're nothing special.

Yes, a Hilux Diff gives more ground clearance than a Dana 30 with the same size tyre, I have both here with 235/75R15s on them and its actually about 10mm difference! The dana poses no advantage excpet extra width IMO.
Therefore a Dana 44 would be worse again for clearance.
Wheeling on completely wicked angles, without even looking stable.
Dana diff or Lux diff is not the point. The point of this argument as to how good the Jimny is. The Jimny is very capable for everybody. A lot of people that are against Jimny in this forum have never owned, driven or modified a Jimny, but get annoyed when a standard Jimny outperforms the Sierra on and off road, especially for a drag!
My second point is: It's not that hard to modify a Jimny as long as you have money, time and enthusiasm (ain't that the truth for all 4WD?). Everything you can do to a Sierra you can also do to a Jimny

nothing major to start with.. i have just painted it jet black. bracing the diffs, made a pov pack into a jlx pack.. looking at putting a m13a into it now. it is a bling suzuki so chrome ect... got a fridge for it and building a slide with draws and flush hidden sub into the back, kept the 3 tv's from my 80 so they are going in also., if ryano stops being busy with eveyone im going 8 chrome steel wheels and chunky tires for off road (making a matching camper trailer from my other jimny) and a set of 20" for the road.. i have a bling rear spoiler, gt25/28 disco potato turbo, 9500 winch, hot water shower, ect... nothing much at this point but i figure ill get bored and change it as i do..
cheers mark
