do you mean three seats in the front?

I don't understand how you could chop it (assume at the back) and keep a seat in the rear.

I have seen a suzuki with just three seats, ie single seat in the rear basically half the normal bench seat, but It did look factory.

I've seen a trayback with a carry (I think) split bench in the front. Suziworld here in Vic had it as a courtesy car.

There's really wasn't any way three people were going to fit in it.

I wouldn't have thought there is enough width in a Sierra to be legal, there are requirement in seat size.

maybe the engineer just wants to see what a sierra will look like with three people sitting in it!

at work we are only allowed to do short trips with three people in single cab hilux's as there is not enough room in them to drive safely with three adults and 1st, 3rd, 5th

I find that very hard to believe that an engineer of any sort of smarts or credibility would approve that. Mainly because there is no room at all for three passengers in the front of a rover, there would be nowhere to safely attach a third seatbelt and there is nowhere for the centre passenger to put their legs safely. I think your son my be making things up.

Also why would he even want a three seat Drover? Is he getting the rest of the drover engineered?

He gets every thing engineered from the rollbar to the rear seat and every thing on his panelvan is engineered

Why doesn't he mount half a split rear seat centrally and wedge the rear with the cut directly behind the seat rather then those couple of inches further back.

It has a rear seat but in his wisdom he wants to make it a tray back
with 3 in the front
and the engineer said ok

I still don't see how an engineer could approve it. It would not be a safe nor sensible idea to have three people sitting in the front of a Sierra/Drover.

hey the law say i have to have 410mm per person and i will move the h brake then to other side of my seat then can use a normal zook cable and then its legal. i have got all standards i need for this job
and there is no reason i just want a 3 seater ute (im not cuttin it till i get the seat passed)

410mm per person? That is tiny and from memory the inside of the cab would be roughly 140mm from door to door so that is very tight. How do you propose you'll reach and activate the hand brake lever when its down between the door and the seat? Having owned a Sierra ute I cannot see how this setup would be functional, comfortable or usable.

I know you say you just want it but seriously can't you see it is just a silly idea and would be near impossible to drive the vehicle with three people in it. Just because you can do it doesn't mean it is a good idea or worth the time and effort and $$$ to do it

I just had images of someone getting impalled on a transfer lever  Need I say more....

Seriously though, this doesn't sound like an easy operation. Is this car daily driven? I would hate daily driving a Zook with a bench seat. Also when 4wding I really really appreciate my buckets stoping me from sliding everywhere. And also how will you deal with leg room for the centre passenger, particularly the transfer lever and also the gear lever.

When I was about 10 or 12 or something I can remember being the centre passenger in a Mazda B2600 and a Nissan Navara, and it sucked!!! I'm a small person (total midget when that age), and I was still squished, and did not enjoy a minute of it!

If you want seats maybe see Brisbane City Council, they have perfected the art of manufacturing tiny uncomfortable seats, and installed them on their buses for our seating pleasure!
Wheeling on completely wicked angles, without even looking stable.
