80 series speedo not working

hi everone i have a 1997 gxl 4.5 petrol full time 4wd 80 series we went for a drive 2 day and on the way home tha speedo was working when we neally got hame the speedo started flickering from 100 back 2 0 a few times the it did not work i know it is the elecrtonic type and any help would be good thanks tufftruck

check the wires off the sender on the back of the transfer, unplug and clean terminals, iff that dont fix it, it is the sender.

Absolutely agree with Dow5or. I have a 98 petrol and I've replaced the sensor twice! It's not cheap, either - over $400.00 if I remember correctly.

When I blew the first one, I decided that I'd do without a speedo for a while but I soon found out that it was also used as input to the engine computer and the thing started running rough, stalling and generally behaving badly. Replaced it and everything was fine.

Mine also stopped working, is there anyway of checking the sensor.
