Ok guys, now I know the immediate answer wil be "buy a tdi" but I want bigger balls than that. Is it worth looking at perhaps turboing an Isuzu 3.9?
Or is there another option. Torque is the goal here, and of course economy, otherwise I'd just rebuild and blow the 3.9
Or should I go this way? I think range and economy points to the deisel.
I intend to keep the vehicle for a few years.
We just bought a new Wrangler for a family car, the Disco is going to be the toy and the distince tourer.

If you drive nicely the tdi and TD5 will probably use a bit less fuel than the 4BD1T. But if you drive them normally there'll be nothing in it.
Try to find a 4BD1T from an Isuzu NPR, that'll save you the $$ and hassle of trying to find the turbo bits. Engine mounts are easy, pick your gearbox and go from there.
I got an email the other day from a guy with a 4BD1 from a rover that he was putting in a toyota. Any interest in his gearbox adaptors?
