Found out that theres no beadlock rims and no roof mounted spotties in the next years event...
Seems they are illegal in NSW, so no go..
Will make things interesting.

I dont think that is the kind of thing Roger would do a that is who you are refering to. He doesn't come accross as that kind of person.
These rules are obviously because of the regs in NSW however we will be competing on private property, should and can they they still be enforced on private land?

Ok we dont know facts and it will end up that everthing must be legal. But are they also insisting on speed rated tyres and rims that havnt had there off sets altered.enginers tickets on any little mod like non standard seats ,oversized tyres , upgraded breaks , roll cages and you carnt tell me the hornes for excess cable is legal the list wouldnt end if you said it has to be legal anything hanging from you rear vision mirror is a obstructed vision offence if it gets to that
True, there wouldn't be many cars in the comp if they were checked thoroughly under the road rules. You could count us out purely on the noise levels from the exhaust and no revision mirrors and no rear guards and tyres and rims seats seats, shit l could fill a page

Quite a valid point, although some stages require the teams to traverse public roads (albeit remote back country) in between stage locations, not to mention the parade through town and the travel to and from the event (from home towns) and the prologue.
Built, not bought.
I spoke to Sharon Vanderhorst about this today and this is what she said;
"The cheif scrutineer for the event has been working with the competition since the beginning and as he is the man who is ultimately responsible for the scrutineering of the vehicles, he wants the vehicles to comply more in line with state transport regulations. The insurance policy for the event is also pushing for this. At this stage, externally beadlocked wheels will not be allowed and neither will roof mounted headlights. Internal cages are required and must be built to cams specs but not nesecarily cams approved. Window nets and helmets will be required for the high speed events. Other than these main points the vehicle classes and specs will remain the same as last years event."
I did ask that roof mounted spots up to a certain height are legal in Queensland and I thought that vehicle must only comply with state transport regs.
Sharon replied "They are aware of this but Queensland is the only stste that allows this and that none of the changes are official as the governing bodies are getting together for a meeting about this tonight so they can make firm decisions."
This is what I was told.

I was under the impression that full cams spec roll cages were ilegal in NSW ??? so how does that work we want your truck totaly legal but then must have cage ???
How do they hope to attract OS competitors ??? A LHD car is not registrable in NSW unles older than 25 years ??? Yes you can drive under under special restrictions but can jot be registred so it is NOT legal ???
Although I am one who thinks for all comps they need to be either 100% legal or have unregistered rules this situation we have at the moment where the comps rules state that you have to be registered and then you see trucks competing that would never pass full RTA inspection and they are allowed to compete as they are some big name is wrong
It is about time that there is a national body and uniform rules and classes and get rid of the politic of " if we make this rule joe bloggs truck wont meet it" sucks Make the rules/classes get buy in from all the comps and competiors then build the trucks to suit the rules
I like the sound of what the Zuke club are doing with the jambo where you can have any mod you like but each mod has a rating you add up all the mods and you get a handicap based on that after all some makes require mods that others dont that dont really affect off road performance on their own but are needed to make other things work right
Control arms are an example here if you changed the control arms and nothing else would you get further up the track ?? I doubt it for most makes but if you put a 5" lift in a Jeep and dont do control arms then you may find you go worse than the guy with a 2" lift and stock control arms

What makes it more interesting is that Im currenly building a class 8 racer under the CAMS rules for off road racing. My cage is on a Defender 110 ute and is for the most part external to the cab. I also know of other class 8 competitors under the CAMS rules racing with external cages on utes
The legalities in WA is that Exo cages are registerable. Ive also heard that you can also licence a vehicle as a rally car with allows you to drive to and from events and for testing.
Im my case Ive also tried to adhere to the 50mm lift rule we have here in WA. This again has a complication. Ive now been told I can register my Defender as a truck Something to do with its towing ability. Are they going to allow "trucks" to enter into the OBC?
