Turbo gaskets - where to buy?

Post by ISUZUROVER »

As above - need a manifold-turbo, and turbo-dump pipe gasket for a T28.

These are copper aren't they? Prices I have seen have been crazy. Where is the best (cheapest) place to get them?

Have you tried your nissan dealer?
Failing that, Ebay in the US has a selection.

eBay is probly the quickest and cheapest. I had a look last night under GT28 and an item came up with both gaskets, $40 from memory.

the most reliable gasket is no gasket, as long as the faces are good.

I've got an upcoming situation of having a turbo with no gasket available. But I'm not game to run it without a gasket.
Besides tapping a gasket from stainless sheet, what are my options?

Thanks guys - will try those places - but even the $40 ebay deals seem expensive to me for what they are...

I have heard this too, and have heard some people also say that a thin smear of silastic also works - apparently it turns to coke which helps seal the joint...

I have also thought of just using the VHT copper spray (on its own) - which is used on copper head gaskets. Anyone tried that?

Dougal - my neighbour years ago made some turbo gaskets from copper sheet (for a petrol nissan) - they worked fine at first, but when the temp got to high they failed.

Actually yes.
There's a guy in the US who fitted the same turbo I've got (GT2256V) onto an old mercedes diesel using a spray on copper gasket. First time I've heard a brand mentioned though.

The long term plan is this as the first turbo in a compound turbo setup. So it'll have to take 800C and survive.

Cool! - I have used this stuff a number of times on copper head gaskets - it is basically like copper+solvent/glue in a can. Works well. Might have to try it instead of gaskets.
