4lt V6 hilux?

4lt V6 hilux?
Can anyone tell me a bit more about the 4lt V6 hilux. Are they much better then the 3.4lt and what sort of fuel consumption figures are people getting. how are they like for towing as im gunna need it to tow a horse float with 1-2 horses. the hilux im looking at is the SR5 duel cab 4lt petrol V6 in automatic. tryed to do a search but come up with zero. does the SR5's still ride like a ute (very harsh) or is it more civilized.
Ride is very harsh (worse than my 91' model)
Don't know figures but they chew more than the 3.4l friends dad upgraded and is not happy with the extra fuel bill.

I hate the automatic gearbox. Don't like these new left, right, up, down, bend space and time just to hit drive; whatever happened to pull stick back 3 steps

I used to have a 3.4L V6 Manual Hilux as a work vehicle which was replaced with a newer 4L V6 model.
Firstly, the 3.4 craps all over any 4cyl Hilux and doesn't tow to bad, but the 4L is just that same step up again over the 3.4. Towing wise, the 3.4 doesn't tow to badly (i have the same motor in my Prado) but i honestly wouldn't tow with one all the time especially if i had the choice of going with the 4L, it is just so much better.
Normal driving wise, the 4L i had was probably a good 1L/100km thirstier on average then the 3.4, around the 14-16L mark. When new it was probably closer to the 20 mark, but once it got close to 10k on it, it started to come good and improve.
Ride wise, i feel the opposite to Luxyboy. Although mine was just a base model, i think it road better then the older model and much more comfortable, still not perfect, but better then your average lux. Whether that's because it had air bag helpers in the back or not i can't really say.

I towed with the auto but the trailer was empty; it has heaps of pull for towing so i don't think it would be changing gear heaps.
If you plan on towing definately get the 4wd model as the 2wd is so low that a standard trailer angles down towards it.
I drive a 91' lux (leaf springs) and they are more harsh than that; i also have WRX seats and a few leaves missing so maybe that is why mine feels nicer

The new hilux is way way smoother than any older model hilux. to say that it was harsher is unfoundedn, the suspension is smooth as and the front end strut design soaks up bumps like no holux has before.
I own an 07 model myself now and it shits over my old otorsion bar hilux over any sort of bumps or corrugations.
My 03 hilux had 32 on it and I used to get an average of 13 litres per 100km.
The vehicles that customers have returned at work regularly get (and these are stock standard trucks) 11-12 litres per 100km on their SR5 trip computers.
if ya need to know anymore just yell out,
Oh, and if your planning on towing a horse float, Id get an aftermarket auto tranny cooler installed on the front just to protect the box abit more.
Personally, I think you should go the D4D diesel for towing ability, or even the Prado D4D that has 420nM of torque as standard!

my father-in-law is going to be trading one very soon. in about 6-8 months and i was going to get it for trade in value. just wanted to know a little about em. i think i might just get it as it should be cheap and if we dont like it just sell it for as much as we bought it. i dont think we could lose? could we?
Aftermarket suspension, or better shocks only, and fiddle the rear 2nd stage leaves, and they ride very well.
The best ute on the market, and drive/fit acc/work on all of them.
We have a customer who is a trainer, and he has bought the hilux in V6 specifically for the purpose of towing horse floats, and went from one to 3, aas the falcon utes and F350 wore out.
He loves them, and they are all over Vic with floats every day.
