twin snorkels. should I?????
i am going to take off my safari snorkel and make up a better looking stainless snorkel.
i was wondering if i would be better off doing twins, even though i'm not too keen on how they look. Both snorkels would have their own filters. it's for a 1hz turbo (up to 16psi f/m cooler).
hoping to squeeze a bit more power out of her.

It would probably depend on whether the standard air cleaner assembly is the restrictive point. If it is not that restrictive then the twins would not achieve much I expect. There would still be the ultimate restriction of how much air flows through the standard inlet tract into the turbo and beyond. The twins may just bottleneck at that point and do nothing. If you wanted to get serious you could test the restrictions in various parts of the system.
How about sticking to the 4" and maybe openign up the plumbing from the air filter housing to the turbo inlet if it's not too much work for you.

I have twin 3" snorkels on my 40 series, but really only to look good. When it was first put together I only had one snorkel piped into the air box and made a huge difference. The second did little though. But I do like the look, especially when it is done properly. Home made jobs look crap. I used an exhaust shop to make mine. Very strong and uses mandrel bend pieces to maintain pipe size throughout.
Basically I don't think you will get any more power from second snorkle or single 4" pipe. Just need good ram air snorkel.

what engine do you have in the 40?
is it through two filters or one??
What do the before and after dyno results say with regard to improved horsepower?Ricko wrote:I have twin 3" snorkels on my 40 series, but really only to look good. Show me the money..SHOW ME THE MONEY
Dyno? Never used one on the old girl.
It has a 3b diesel with 5 speed box. Basically any mod makes a difference to the old girl. I already had 2 and half inch exhaust with straight through muffler coming out just past front door (in front of rear wheel) and finer filter air filter. So with addition of snorkle, really helped it breathe and difference on the highway was great. But like I said, when the second went on, not much difference. I plumbed it in with a Y piece and then into standard air cleaner box.
I would look at it like sports cars. I notice most skylines usually only have have one air intake (using cold air induction) and feeds those things 400hp pretty easy. However v8 supercars have two, going for 640hp ish. In a big old diesel dog, I don't think we are in that league. One properly setup ram air snorkle will do the job. After that just go for looks.
