Hey Guys,
1st, thanks for an amazinf forum where we can learn...I am the newbie here, so 8)
Anyways, wanted to get some infor from you guys. I will be running an ~3" OME lift on my 1992 Disco 5 door, and a 2" body lift. I really would like to have the flares that all you guys are running, since they allow for the bigger tires we all need without all that mad lift.
two questions:
1. where can I order these flares for my Disco? (I livein Saudi Arabia)
2. what are they made of, and are there different makes?
3. what maximum tire size can I go with with that set-up?

Im Wheellin a Disco. I had a very similiar setup on mine a few years ago. I was able to run 33" tires.
You will have to be careful with the rear doors as they may need some modificiation.
The rangie spares flares are probably the best

I think that you will have trouble running anything much bigger than a 35in tyre. With tyres bigger than this (and still having some wheel travel) you run into trouble with the front tyres hitting the firewall and you really need to move the front axle forward. I have seen a few discos and rangies running bigger than 35 but IMO they sacifice a lot of upward wheel travel (which, if you are into rocks is a big loss)

Thanks for the insight. The thing is, I will be running wheel with enough offset to enable me to run the 36x12.5x15 SXs. Add to that the fact that the thicker-wired coil springs will need taller bumpstops since they will collapse before the usual thinner ones, then I think I can safely run these tires.
I will not be running 100% of the times on rocks, but I will be encountering them, and if I were to sacrifice 1" uptravel for that, then so be it. The SXs will allow me to gain in other areas, so the idea is to slap on these tires.
I was told my some people that 2" sus. lift, 2" body lift, and the flares will allow for 35x12.5 tires, so I am 'hoping' that the additional 1" suspension lift and ~1" bumpstop drops will allow me to runthe 36 SXs.
Will let you know how it ends up.

The flares are made of fibreglass, so dont flex very well (read not at all) and fitting to a four door requires patience for the rear door flare.

Flares
Running the Rangie Spares Flares on my 4 Door 85 Rangie, back door trimming was painfull, Run Q78 Swampers, 3 inch springs and 2 bodylift. The tyres do rub on the firewall, changing front bumpstops to progressive ones that will slow the bang down. Also new front springs are coming due to sag after installing the Chev in the last couple of weeks. Rangie Spares do good flares but coils don't last long.

Actually, I will be running GBR (Great Basin Rovers) R&P front and rear, "extreme duty" axles front and rear, "extreme duty" CVs, and flanges...
Currently have the 32 swampers with everything stock but the ARBs and 4.7 series R&P, and everything has held up pretty well.
Mind you, the 3.5 V8i is not a power-house, the LT77 not amean transmission, and my right foot has been on a diet for the past 3 years...
I am trying to have the most clearence as possible, so with the "tiny" Rover diffs on 36s, I will have ~11.5" clearence, almost the same as my buddy with a rear 14-bolt on 42s

That is great news, these Q78 are appearently HUGE, the tread alone appearently is like 2" deep... ...anyways, I will definitely be extending my bumpstops some 1". Why don't you use the OME764 springs in front, they will give you a 3" lift with a Rover engine...not sure how they will be able to lift the Chev. though...

Dino have you given any thought to running the hilux diff centres in the rover housings?
They fit easy with a little modification and are a lot stronger than the rover centres and prob a lot cheaper.
Sam is doing this conversion on his Rangie as we speak and can shed a lot more light for you. And he has some good pics of this conversion too.

I heard about the Toyota 3rd members fitting in, however, I think the ARBs are stout enough, and the R&P that GBR are providing are great, and treated to a lot of metallurgical goodies...
THe issue is with the axles, and that is where I am kinda scared...I hope these "extreme duty" 24 spline, 1.25" axles will keep the pace, if not, I will slap a Salisbury in the rear, but then, that will defeat the purpose of having 36"s on Rover axles...

dont buy from GBR!!! all they do is rebadge stuff from Australia, except for maybe the gears but their gears are way too much $$$ anyways.
here is what i would suggest.
MacNamara 30 Spline rears, with 30 spline ARB
Ashcroft 4.11 (NOT 4.10, the tooth count is different and the 4.11 is much stronger)
30 spline ARB in the front, running 30 spline inner axleshafts to Longfielded Toyota birfields, and then a HD 24 spline stub axle to use as the weak link.
this setup will stand up to 38" SXs without a doubt, since you apparantly dont hammer on the truck at all.

Thanks for the warning, I guess I like to get all the things from one guy...
Although your reco seems really stout, I really prefer keeping the 24 spline set-up, since I wheel in the Middle East, and am sometimes a day from civilization, and a broken 30 spline half shaft will leave me stranded for a long time, whereas, I can slap in any stock LR one to drive me home...
I am planning on running anything above 36", therefore the 4.11 ratio will not provide me with the adequate low gearing I may need sometimes...that is why the GBR 4.75s are right, and I know that thay are of high quality (spoke to a D-90 owner that has them when I was doing my masters in UIC)...I currently run the series 4.7s, but am not too happy with them...
The terrain we wheel on is everything from mud, grass, dirt roads, sand dues, desert, river crossing, you name it, and snow in winter...its really divers...you can check out http://www.landroverunion.com for pictures, or http://www.discoweb.org, under "photogallery" (my name), and "trails" (under mzar-faraya, roumieh 1 & 2, mishmish, hrajel, and zaarour)
