Post by Gem... »

hi im new to here, am looking at buying a pajero, wanted to get a 3.5ltr one, have found a swb pajero at the government auctions wich has a blowen 3ltr engine, was wondeering if the 3.5 and 3.0ltrs were interchangable? bolted up the same? and electrics were similer?
are the gearboxes the same?
if not is there alot to do to get them to fit?

Hi Darren, welcome to outerlimits,

From what i know the models with a 3.5 engine had a factory body lift. They needed more room to fit the bigger engine in.

Sooo..... i guess you could install a body lift, get the room you need and then chuck the 3.5 in there.

Not sure about anything with mounting, or interfacing to the rest of the vehicle though.

Others might have more info.

The 3.5 litre Pajeros came with larger gearbox and rear diff, and I guess the transfer case was larger too. Have a look at our tech database - you should find the details in there.

ok

has this ever been done before?

yeh thought it was the gearbox that made it need the 1inch lift, so the 3.5 wont bolt up to a 3.0ltr box?

No, and the 3.5 gearbox won't bolt up to the 3.0 transfer box either so you'll need that too.

Big job.

Getting more power = using more fuel in most cases. They dont normally work together.

As far as I know, the 3L V6's are similar to those used in early-ish Magnas (6G72?) - so presumably there's some market out there. The Aussiemagna forums might have some information.

If you're just after a bit more power, I'd go with extractors + decent exhaust (guessing at single 2.5", maybe 2.25"), and clean up the intake. Don't go for a K&N filter, they get a little more power in some cars, but don't filter the dust as well. Then maybe look at chip+heads+cam, or strap an Eaton to it (there's someone selling a small one on here, M45 off a Merc - probably would get you 4-6PSI) for more torque. Or you could use an M90 off a supercharged commodore. :)

Not exactly cheap, unless you can do the work yourself.

Let us know what happens, I'm interested in the options myself.

Lindsay.

whilst the magna engine is the same engine as the paj it is an east west configiration, and not the north south like the pajero

Good point, guess that means magna extractors won't fit (unless you want to dump the exhaust at the front  ), shouldn't impact cams/heads, etc? I know sumps are different.

They fit quite easily. There is a thread or two about I seem to recall where it has been done. I think they are a cheap alternative to a Jabber engine, wiht only the ancileries needing swapped to the ones on your car.

The V6 3000 is the Paj's best ever engine ... it's a very reliable motor ... of course if you mod it well ... anything can happen.

Before Mitsu. closed it's factory dfown in S.A. you could buy a V6 3000 for $3k (plus fitting). This worked out to be the same as reconditioning an old V6 3000 but, of course, was better due to the fact you got a new motor.

I honestly don't know what the situation is now with Mitsu. closing down it's plant ( and would love from those who may know) but I think the days are over for getting a new V6 3000 for the Paj.

Hope this helps a tad.

well the swb pajero im looking at has a blowen engine. so it would need a rebuild so looking at things that would gain power for it, bore out the cylinders maybe? port the head and some cams, although do they make cams for the 3ltr engine?

was thinking about rebuilding for a bit of boost too, maybe a blower..

also with the front suspension of the pajeros, is the only way to lift them by adjusting the bars? and how far can they go before it becomes a crap ride?

Yes looking on the net everything is availiable for the 6g72 engine, billet cams, forged rods and pistons, CPUS, etc but your going to pay through your ass for them. And it wont be all that much better normally aspirated.

Boring the engine isn't really a performance thing just re-new your bore/piston clearance to stop burning oil, loosing compression into the crankcase and reduce piston slap.

I would just get a rebore, basic port and polish done on the head and maybe some extractors ... otherwise it will all cost way too much

http://www.rpw.com.au has some stuff .. over $1000 for billet cams though a cam shop like ivan tighe might be able to re-grind yours for a couple of hundred bucks though.

Unless you know what you are doing and doing it yourself putting a blower on will be big bucks.
