Hello everyone,
I have a 91 Rocky and the 4wd won't engage. About 6 months ago I replaced the clutch in the Rocky and I think I may of done something wrong then. I think it is something simple like a wire to a solenoid or something stupid like that, that is causing the problem. We have 3 Rocky's all up, two 86 models and mine is a 91. They 91 has all this fancy pneumatic stuff on the gearbox that the 86 models don't and that may also be the problem. I know its hard to help without seeing it, but is this something that has happened to anyone else?
Everyone gives me shit about having a rocky, but I would rather have it than any other new 4wd, its never let me down. Our 86 has 500, 000km on the clock, all original and never been to a real mechanic and still goes strong, apart from 2nd gear also I hit, well she hit me, a little holden car, can't remember what, but I completely wrote it off, and the Rocky only had a ding the size of my fist on the front.
A old photo from when I first got it.

Sorry bud, I cant help, mine has a manual shift level but have you downloaded the manual from www.warfs.org
It covers both manual and pneumatic transfer cases. It may help...
Hope you find something on there

Its generally the vacum solenoids. Mine would get stuck in 4wd.
DAIHATSU want $186.00 each but i pulled mine apart by un crimping the end. It was full of mud.
I think the plugs are different so you cant get them wrong but if you got the vacum hoses it wont work.
To test it start the car press the stupid dumass 4wd button and get under and pull the vac hose off on the front off the transfer it should have vac (suction) when 4wd is engaged.
The other hose (2wd) is up the top on the back of the transfer it should have vac when in 2wd its hard to get to i pulled the shifter boot off and got my 5yr old son to get his tiny hand down there (he thinks he is a mechanic now).
Have a look at the WARFS site all the drawings are there.
Cheers CRAIG.

Could be any number of things.
If you've just had the box out to replace the clutch, check the vacuum line is still connected. It runs down the passenger side of the engine block from the alternator. There's a small bit of hose where the clutch housing bolts to the motor.
Also, as already said, check the connections to the solenoids on the drivers side of the gearbox. Might be a buggerd solenoid or dirt in the connectors.
Good luck
Cheers.
