to my understanding that is a garrett t28 ballbearing turbo?
this is what i thourght would suit but someone told me a T3 would suit... but they own a petrol so that would obviously be different?

I'd imagine the TB42 would have a higher average useable RPM band compared to the TD42. If you want normal N/A power, then a real turbo rush a bit later in the rev range a T3 would be ok, but as said, most go for the GT28BB.
There could be a group buy coming up soon for TD42 turbo manifolds. Keep your eyes peeled.

I've heard the GT2860RS works well but don't now of anyone that has fitted it.
I received this recommendation from Rotomaster which apparently works well but yet again cannot get anyone to confirm it.
GT2871 (743347-2)
Would be nice to get proven specs but I understand most companies who fit them want to protect their business. They have done the research so I don’t blame them.

Which ratio is better ?
Garret GT2860RS Ball Bearing Turbo with 0.64 exhaust turbine housing
OR
Garret GT2860RS Ball Bearing Turbo with 0.82 exhaust turbine housing
I have a factory top mount cooler, and just want to replace the factory hitachi turbo with something (else) of a t3 mount to reduce egt's

We get a custom turbo built that offers the strength of a GT30 core with the spool speed and A/R of a Gt28 with a .64 or .82 exhaust housing depending on our application. The GT2876 is great but there have been issues at high boost due to the fact the turbo is really made for engine around 2.5 litres. The high thrust loads of running a 4.2 litre engine at 25 psi with a turbo designed for a 2.5 litre engine has caused the bearings to flatten out and the turbo to fail, Garrett do not warrant this. As yet the hybrid design we are having made is yet to fail.

How have the stockers gone in low boost applications? Really good, our turbo spools so well we have been able to max out the stock pumps to the point where the idle cannot be adjusted down anymore. Due to the quick spool and large air volumes smoke is minimal and the EGTs when combined with an intercooler are as per stock.

Is this a worthwhile replacement for my maxxed out factory turbo ?PGS 4WD wrote:We get a custom turbo built that offers the strength of a GT30 core with the spool speed and A/R of a Gt28 with a .64 or .82 exhaust housing depending on our application.
I am using the factory cooler with just under 1 bar boost, and egt't get pretty high under load.....

gudday guys, great forum youre running here have been watching and taking notes for a while now...
Im re-building a TD42T (ground up) and have just come across the above turbo setup mentioned, I had wondered why garrett had recommended GT28 for 2ltrs so this makes sense..
How much approx is the GT30 setup with .82 A/R? (ballpark figure)
Will the TD42T pump handle the fuel flow or will I need to upgrade plungers to 12mm like in the non turbo engines?
Is the TD42T cam the same as NA?
I have had it balanced and flowed and ported so bottom end will be strong . looking at the manifolds that coxy has on the go and will be using the PWR 600x300x75 charge air cooler.
any advice appreciated...
