Tail shafted
Tail shafted
What shafts are people running with big lift sierras? Mine are on big angles and vibrate and chew out unis at a fair rate. The transfer and pinnion angles look the same.
What's involved in fitting hilux shafts with the double unis on one end?
By the way, how do you post pics?

have you got an xfer drum handbrake?
you can machine its surface down and re-drill holes in it to allow for the hilux shaft.
at the other end you will need to machine up an adaptor that has both the spook holes and offset hilux holes

How big is you lift ??
I used to run SPOA with 2 inch springs so that would be arond 6 to 7 inch lift I guess .. My Zuk was a daily driver taking me around 140 K per day to work (round trip) Uni's would last arond 3 months or so, often they would die doue to my mud pig 4 wheeling habit (Mud is not a good lube despite what they will tell you at the Mardi Gras )
I started having major uni joint issues was due to some slighty overzealous work repalcing a uni and bending one of the "ears" on the rear of driveshaft .. and or uni joint bind due to spring wrap. meaning I was replacing joints on a weekly (yes weekly) basis ..
New (to me) shaft bolted it in .. is still going 5000kms later ..
I think it was about $70 which was cheaper than two good unit joints .. still have the old shaft rattling around as a spare ...

We did a fix similar to this on my car to fix some issues - the (massive) amounts of torque generated by the old 1.3 had twisted up the x-fer mounts quite a bit - this meant we had some slightly ugly angles on the rear drive shaft and jackshaft...
Once the bent x-fer case mount was replaced with a straight one everything fell back into place (including all the holes lining up for the bolts on the x-fer case) and all vibrations were subdued and smooth again.
A happy ending for all really

Alos you need to be careful which double carden you get, the one from an IFS lux\four runner is not as flexiable as the one from the solid axle version .. also rebuilding the joint is somewhat spendy as well from memory
