Gen 3 vs 6.5 Diesel
Thought I woul dpost it here as its not reaaly car specific,
Bought a Gq TB42e, want more, was going to do Diesel TD42ti transplant,
Figued its going to cost me at least 5/6 grand to do it properly, SO
What else can I do for similar or a little more $$$,
Any body that can give me facts of either as a comparison,
Such as
ltr's per 100
transplant costs,
Straight gas vs dual fuel for Gen 3, (still want to get some decent distance eg 800km or more)
pwr comaprison, obviously Gen 3 more but much?
Weight
Any help would be great,
Cheers

I paid just under $4000 for a second hand engine harness, PCM, etc. If you can get a new motor for $5000 it won't come with starter, alt, power steer pump, wiring haness or PCM.
On top of that you have
adapter kit $1000 to $1500
exhaust, $500 to $1000
fuel pump and external reg, about $500
radiator mods, thermo fans $250 to 500
reverse sump $600ish
PCM re tune and remove VATS, $500ish
Wiring $500
plus mounting the engine, and all the extra little costs
And labour charges if you are not DIY.

Cheers Steve,
I have heard, word of mouth only, haven't checked for myself, new motor with all accesseries at $4600 from a dealer with warranty, was thinking of running Carby manifold, info from same place (yes they make a carby for them apparantly) and run straight gas, so I should be able to lose the Harness? relatively DIY, would think I can fit it and handball it to get it running,
Steve, are you running straight gas or petrol? what sort of k's do you get?

Gas research System if you want LPG
Autronics ECU
Heaps of power, no engineering issues!
I've seen a few dedicated LPG/turbo TB42's, and they go pretty damn hard. If you keep your eye's peeled, you can pick up a gas kit for $500-$1000, GasResearch TB for $450 new, FMIC, 3" exhaust $600. EASY POWER for around $2500.

Hey, you still need a computer to control the ignition timing, etc (there is nowhere for a dizzy)skip-unstuck wrote:Cheers Steve,

mine is not running yet, still saving more dollars to get it in, i have heard around 6km/L on fuel.
I would be interseted to see how it goes with a manifold and straight gas.

Short term it will be closer to home stuff, But I would prefer it not to limit me from doing the cape, Fraser etc, I want more grunt currenlty on 35, will be getting 37's later, Was planning on doing up a hot TD42ti, this being the case it wears down the longegevity and realiability, would want it to blow the pants of yours Guuey, so was thinking I just do it once properly, like the range I can get from the diesel, ideas?
Do it!!
Doing it once and doing it properly is using Nissans already designed offroad engine.Engine that is made to be in the bush, Starter motors that dont shit themselves every time they are submersed in mud, Alternators that are positioned in the engine bay to be protected from dust eating bearings and brushes, Cooling systems to cope under summer conditions. tailshafts that are factory lengths. Turbo TB42 will blow the doors of mine and most trucks with V8 conversions without all the hassels that come with them. blew the doors of a GQ Wagon that he fitted a GenIII EFI into a few years back. As you no i had 2 V8 converted trucks and there is issues no matter how right you do it!
GU III TD42T UFI18G Cross Country IC, 20 PSI. Neeeeeed mooooore Fueeeeeel.
a mate of mine was running a worked 4.2TD in his GQ i believe he was running 18pound boost round town and somthing like 26 at comps, this thing went hell for leather!

I think a V8 conversion can be as reliable as say a turbo'd petrol engine,
the starter motor, i guess i will give ya that one.
the alt can be moved up nice and high, tailshafts can be left the same length depending on gearbox choice.
and as i see it you will have cooloing issues with a non factory turboed engine as much as a V8.
Plus with the v8 it is running the same power output as the manufatuer designed it to have, not twice the power stressing other engine components.
My opinion is if you want 300kw put in a 300kw engine instead of turning a 120kw engine into 300kw.

Hey, do you have more info on the ignition controller? is it fully mapable like the factory system, and does it have knock control? and what sort of dollars?CRUSHU wrote:You can buy the controller for the ignition fairly cheaply, and many places make carby manifolds for them.
I sell the 6 litres, let me know if you get serious....
I may look at straight gas on my gen 3 if not to expensive.

well you are saying it cant be done for 10 cause you paid 25 so if you are now saying that is because you had alot of extras added your post was about as pointless as minebogged wrote:So you know what options and accessories I went for on it to come to that judgement? theres places in brisbane that offer a drive in drive out conversion for a cruiser for about $18k
cant see why a patrol would be 6 thousand dollars dearer.
Why would you put the 6.5 diesel in anything? The reputation of these things isn't good and even the 220hp quoted from the best 6.5L is pathetic for the capacity.

No, manual and auto are different in standard configuration and require different parts which cost a lot more...fourbyconvert wrote:well you are saying it cant be done for 10 cause you paid 25 so if you are now saying that is because you had alot of extras added your post was about as pointless as mine
But you already knew that.
