I have found that there is a different model car (which will stayed unnamed for now) which can fit into a GQ 4.2 petrol top hole where the adjuster is small amount of grinding then bottom braket just needs cutting and welding.
if all testing goes to planned it is now bolted into car and no problems for the next couple of weeks i will be making a small kit which will then make it a bolt in up grade for people to buy!

Alternator
I run a Leese Neville 140amp alternator and haven't modified the standard mount at all! A bit of grinding was need on the inlet manifold but otherwise bolt in. I have run it for over 2 years with no trouble. Some machined spacers make up the gap from the original mount to the larger legs on the bottom. Here's some shots for those interested. It will run 6 100w spots + 2 110w radio etc on full charge at idle

I originally aquired it from Herbohn's Auto Electrics in Kingaroy when working there and i rebuilt it with help from my mate working there at the time. The pulley isnt standard as I had to get one that worked in the limit of the original bracket etc. (it was one lying around) 1MadEngineer states AEA which will help closer to home. Cheers Mick

Yes it was, it was upgraded not sure by how much, see the blue cable in pic too long ago. The plug into the back was spliced to suit the new plug but in worse case the old alternator can be still used thanks to my mates help back in 2004. It hasn't been out since sorry i cant be of more help. Hence i no longer do auto electric work anymore. Much easier being a boily

Well after running it for about 2 weeks i have had no problems. Now for every one to run out to get one it is a EF falcon one!
the statement from patrolapart well lets say they said we have one coming in a couple of weeks but keeps talking alot of crap and saids its still coming..... this was back in Jan this year where he told me it was a week away. I told him about the EF falcon one and he said it was crap and didnt work... ow well

Most bosch alt casings are interchangeable, so if the dunny dore is easier to fit, use the casings and bung in a 120 amp internals.chops wrote:i have a 70 amp bosch vl commodore alt in mine, bolted straight in

had a denso outer front housing onto a 120 bosch alt, worked fine and easy up grade on a 22r 4runner.
for the rear i used a home made bracket that bolted onto the back of the alt

What did you do with the belt pulley? I found that you had to extend the length of it so that it would not rub on the housing ?
What did you do with the bottom mounts. I found the bolt holes were too small for the bolt to go through, so they needed to be drilled out, and also the spacing was wrong so either needed spacers made up or cut and shut.
Any pics of how you went about it ?

1. pull the pully off the GQ one and also there is a spacer behind the pully and put that onto the EF one
2. top braket standard is bolt through the adjuster then there is a thread in the alternator. what you have to do is take the EF falcon one to a bolt place and get a bolt which will sit nice in the top hole of the alternator then ether tap a thread into the little adjuster block or drill it out and put a nut on the other end. You will also have to slot the adjuster arm a bit so the bolt can slide through the adjuster.
3. you have the front hole and rear hole get the bolt off the EF falcon drill out the 2 holes on the gq braket so the bolt will go through (since standard there is a thread) and then get the bottom GQ braket and cut the rear braket off bolt is through the alternator so it will be in the new spot and weld it in place
also you will have the change the ring on the end of the main charging wire since its a bigger bolt out the back of the alternator
any more questions fire away will get some pictures soon
