DIY Rear Drawers

hey guys,

just thought id pop up some photos of the drawers i made for the back of the paj for our upcoming trip.

i know a few people are always taking about drawers and then theres the gunbarrel kits on ebay and what not,took about 10 hours all up over a few days, pretty happy with them, heaps strong, not totally finished, but you get the idea.

just thought id add, its using skateboard bearings, 8mm nuts and bolts, ply drawers, 20x20rhs runners, total cost all up was about $60 for the two drawers, already had half the bearings, and the ply.

nice drawers, love the bearings, do you get much free play in them? what stops sideways movement? the rhs on the ply?

yeh pretty much,

theres nota terrible amount of sideways movement, plus the drawers arent finished, but yeh you get the general idea.

theres pretty much zero freeplay in the drawers with the bearings and rhs.

Good idea with the tube and bearings instead of slides especially when my old man owns a bearing shop

nice mate i did mine myself too but i still cant find any good locking recesed handles

here ya go mate, sorry took a while, i think a guy down in melbourne did a batch of these and frank had one fitted to his old paj, and i swapped it over when i did the body swap,

I have a few questions I am hoping you will be able to answer.

First of all, how are the drawers, runners and bearings holding up now that they are getting on a bit?

How did you attach the metal runners to the drawer? If it was just with normal bolts from the inside with the nut in the runner what did you do to stop your stuff rubbing on the exposed head of the bolt or did you use a countersunk type head?

What mechanism did you use to stop them sliding all the way out?

Did you use something as bump stop to cushion the drawer's return movement?

How do you keep them open when you need them open?

Are the skateboard bearings showing any sign of wear?
