ls2 to 1hz 5 speed

Post by bru21 »

I want to join an ls2 to a 75 series gearbox - fine spline post 90 model with 4 mounting bolts.

I have called dellows and they have made an adaptor to suit the h151 box thinking there were no 4 bolts after 90. I am awaiting their return call.

marks has a kit although its $1350 PLUS $1350 for the clutch and its an add on to the 1hz bell housing which adds length and has a spigot shaft.

I am wondering if I could use the old chev to 2h bell housing available to both dellows $550+GST and castlemaine rod shop $488 inc spigot bush.

I have been told that the bellhousing has one bolt missing on the motorend and its too short by 20 or so millimetres.

I would like more detailed info before I buy one to make sure it will work.

what I am after is to use the minimum possible room to adapt the motor to the box as it will be fitted front mid layout.

I jave looked without success on the advanced adaptors site, and have been told that the adaptors are marks any way. I would imagine this would be a common conversion in the US.

So far I am thinking of using Ls1 flywheel and pressure plate, 1hz clutch plate, release bearing and holder and 1hz clutch fork and slave cylinder.

I was thinking of making a spacer out of aluminimum and running the dowels and bolts right through to try to maintain alignment to extend the bellhousing by the 20mm or so, and tigging on another hole if necessary.

any help will be appreciated

cheers Justin

LS1&2 engines bolt up to chev pattern with one bolt missing. Dowles are corect size aswell. Have just fitted a turbo 400 to a blown ls1 in a late model monaro . Std turbo converter bolts to std ls flexplate so chev adaptor bellhousing will fit. Might have to re drill fly wheel to take chev clutch but I would try to use the ls series clutch.

From what i have read, an old chev gearbox (ie t400) will bolt up to the LS1, minus the one bolt. There is then a small spacer used behind the flexplate to space it out a little. I beleive this spacer is a factory item used in ls1's with the 4l80 transmission.
So i assume you could then use the same spacer behind the LS1 flywheel and use the chev bellhousing. that is of cause if the old chev flywheel is the same thickness as the ls1.

thanks fellas.

I think i have used an 11" chevy pressure plate and an ls flywheel when i did my patrol. It was part of a marks kit. I remember having to remove the dowels. I would like to use ls pressure plate if i can, but i guess it doesn't really matter.

now I guess I have to choose between castlemaine and dellows.

does anyone have pics, really would like to see one of each

Before you use a toyota box behind an LS2. This is my mates one he races with

http://www.flatoutoffroadracing.com/200 ... report.htm

Id say the technical term for that is its stuffed and he wasnt pushing it hard either as he knew it was the weak point

He had spacers between the two wheels it didnt work. I dont know all the details but he did have to space it out due a different lengths. Maybe the bell housing was to long??

Anyway the moral of the story is keep it as strong and simple as possible

I think he is now going custom or patrol box

Me Id go auto

Sorry to be full of "good advice" I just think off road racing is a different ball game to winch challenges etc so you need to build the truck accordingly.
