60 series front guards

Post by Tim HJ61 »

Hi,

My HJ61 import had a knock in the front end prior to me buying it. It was repaired but it seems moisture has got in between the inner and outer guards at the top of the guard as the joins opened up in the prang and the guards are rusting out all along just in line with the bonnet. Not yet visible from the outside, only when I lift the bonnet.

A panel shop has estimated $1200 to cut out the rust, weld in new angle pieces and match the grey metallic paint.

Used panels are far more interesting option to me, or new steel /fibreglass if I they are available.

My question is:
Are all 60 series front guards the same? or do the later models like mine with the four rectangular headlights have a different guard?

Comments welcome.

Thanks
Tim

I have seen some cheap guards going on eBay of late. Keep your eye out, someone will know.

The basic guard stamping is the same but the square headlight model do have different brackets permanently fixed for the park lights as well as the hole for the side mounted indicator. You can get away with round headlight guards with some mucking around if you get stuck. I have some nice round light ones here if you need them. PM me. Cheers.
