Gear or Chain Driven Transfer Case?

Gear or Chain Driven Transfer Case?
What is stronger, a gear driven or a chain driven tranfer case. I see that the marlin utilises 2 gear driven (top shifting) cases for the latest dual case adaptor. Marlin is usually at the forefront of new technology and I was wondering if this setup would be stronger than the usual combo?

Im not sure of strength but with a gear driven you can change your ratios to various crawler gear ratios, with a chain drive you are stuck with stock.
Also there seems to be more shit to go wrong inside a chain drive like oil pump, planetary gears, chain etc. where as the good ol gear drive is relativly simple, gears shafts and bearings.

Gear drive. A bit noisier than the chain drive, but oh so reliable. Aside from shaft and gear strength, a lot can depend on the case design though, as there are opposing forces between a gear drive and a chain drive, this case strength will usually make or break (pun intended) a case.

Dave i think you may be confused?
The usuall combo is dual Gear Driven Cases. Your Hilux has a gear driven case. The chain driven cases are much weaker.

That's alright I didn't even THINK it properly. I didn't know what I was talking about when I started the thread but I have learnt a bit today. I thought that a top shifting case and a forward shifting case were different in that one was a gear drive and one was a chain drive - WRONG!
For any other simple minded people reading this, the deal is.
4 Speed box comes with top shifting gear driven case
5 Speed box comes with front shifting gear driven case
New stuff ( I assume IFS) come with a chain driven case
The internals are the same between a top shifting gear driven case and a forward shifting gear driven case it's only the shift lever configuration that changes.

All imported Surfs and IFS 4 runners (From 1989) are Chain Drive!! (i think)
