need help with bad whinning noise and its not my wife
need help with bad whinning noise and its not my wife
hi to all
i need to know whats wrong with my zook!!!
first thing is that i had a really bad grinding noise when the car was under load and slight noise when car was stationary in nutral with clutch in -clutch out the noise was back just slightly.
So i replaced the thrust bearing on the gearbox, that made it quietier when car is running in nutral
but now the grinding noise has gone and now theres a whinning noise when the zook is under load, no noise when coasting and no noise when clutch in.
seams to be worse in 3rd, 4th, 5th
i need to know how to fix this.

yes i did change the gearbox oil and transfer case aswell.( not the best oil that came out of these, i think that they were never changed)
its really starting to get to me
im thinking maybe just buy a replacement gearbox and fix my one when ive replaced it so then when i will have a spare gearbox ready when needed.
but then at the same time my current gearbox could be something easyly fixed!,or it could be my transfer case.
so at the moment i feel like im up sh!t creek without a paddle.

my votes on rear wheel bearings.. had the same noise a little while back, replaced bearings and its now quiet...for a zuki.. Also thought it was gearbox.. but took the stab at the rear wheels and was right..

Transfer case, diff gears, gearbox, there are plenty of possibly causes. Try driving along and putting your hand on the gearbox shifter, then the transfer case shifter. See if you can feel any vibrations coming from the box. Also you can try putting the car on stands and listening to the driveline. Make sure you chock it up very well so that it will not come down, and dont do it alone.

hi all just to update you on whats going on so far with this.
I have just picked up my zook from the mechanics and the guy told me thats its the transfer case but ha has no time at the moment to pull it out and replace the bearings.
I asked him what would it cost for him just to replace the bearings if i gave him just the transfer case and his qoute was around 200- 260 depends on what else is wrong with the transfer.
so I dropped into the wreckers on the way home and asked how much for a transfer case for my wt 89 zook and his cost around 250 -300, so what im going to do is buy a another transfer case from the wreckers to get me back on the road asap.
he didn't have one in stock but can get one sent withing a few days.
so hope fully that stops the whinning noise!!!!
ok i have another problem aswell with my zook (its all happening all at once)
my rear diff is clunking when i slow down for say traffic lights then clunks again when i take off, its in my diff for sure.
I had the car jacked up and my mate holding the drive shaft and then i spun the drivers side tyre and theres a clunk! right in the middle where the axel would go into the diff gears ( can't think of the name).
one thing after another
