GARRETT TG35/40

Post by GEEKEW »

NEW TO THIS FORUM AND WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IF ANYONE CAN TELL ME IF THE TURBO OFF AN XR6 WILL WORK ONA TD 42 ? ITS A GARRET TG35/50 I KNOW IT HAS A T3 FLANGE BUT I`M NOT SURE IF IT SPOOL UP EARLY ENOUGH, THE GUYS AT MTQ SAY IT WILL WORK WELL BUT OTHER TURBO SUPPLIERS HAVE TOLD ME IT WILL NOT BE SUITABLE AND WILL START MAKING BOOST AT 2800-3000 REVS BUT THATS NO GOOD TO ME. THERE ARE T05 MITSUBISHI TURBO`S ON EBAY AND THE MTQ KIT USES ONE OF THESE BUT I`M NOT SURE IF THEY ARE DIFFERENT INTERNALLY TO WHAT MTQ USE? NOBODY THERE COULD (WOULD TELL ME) !!!

APPRECIATE NAY IDEA`S? THANKS

You can use th Falcon turbo, have done it before, they are very smooth in their power delivery(not agressive). You will have boost from 1500 rpm but it may only be 1-2 psi and it wil build progressivly to 10 psi by about 3700-4000 rpm. The TD05 from memory may have different flanges, their are a few applications, Subaroo etc.

OUTCH!!! MY EYES ARE HURTING!!! STOP USING CAPS!!!!

I would go for a T3-T4 or combination if your after a cheaper option. Do yourself a favour and use the search function, set the filter to nissan, 4x4 tech, and search for "TD42" or "garret" or "turbo". Absolute sh!tloads of info on here. Plenty of different types have been trialled, it all depends on what you want to do with the truck and what your driving style.

Turbo size is generally determined by power output. Figure that out and work backwards. But be realsitic with it.

OOPS my mistake, was reading back and didn't notice it was a TD42, thought was a TB42. Bottom line is its too big at 1.06 on the exhaust housing, you'd want a .64 which dosen't bolt straight on as the turbine wheel size is different, you can bore out the housing and you can dissasemble the turbo and turn down the turbine wheel but both probably cost more than is worth while.

Sorry, will take more time to read posts detail.
