what engine to put in my lux
the 2.8's blown so just need advice on wat u guys think i should convert to...... been lookin at commodore v6's not sure really wat else is best for it.
i travel at least an hour on highway everyday so has to be fairly economical and does anyone know some good engine conversion places in south east qld would also like to do it under 5g if possible

hey mate i had a V6 commodore motor in my lux running the standard G52 hilux box it wasn't the best on fuel enconomy was using about 16ltr/100kms but plenty of pulling power also depends how heavy ya right foot is, and will u be doing much 4wding in the truck?

If you got plenty of money, want to impress the boys with the noise, have no mortgage and are good at putting a big square peg in a round hole, go the UZ V8.
If you want something that fits in the bay like a dick in a shirt sleeve and is cheap to repair and very reliable, go the 3.8 VR V6.

hmm yeah not left with many options.... how hard is it gonna be to get parts n repairs if i end up with another jap motor like the 1kz-te or sumthin???
i do a little 4wding maybe once every 2months and do trips to moreton or fraser once a year so nothing extreme but i do like to push it wen i can. and i do hav bigger plans for it eventually so would like sumthin with a bit of grunt.

The best economy you are going to get is the 1kz-te and these are not just an import motor they were also fitted to Aussie delivered Toyotas so parts are not an issue.
The commo V6 although possibly one of the better fitting and more common conversion they are not known for fuel economy. The 1UZ V8 Toyota engine actually gets much better economy but its a very tight fit.
Rebuild the 2.8 and turbo it. You will get better fuel economy than you did before and come out ahead on $$.

I get 15lts to 100ks for normal driving out of my hilux with the 1uz.
IMHO a V6 conversion is a waste of time and money. Its bugger all more work to do a V8 conversion and you end up with a way better rig in the long run. 1 of the reasons why I say this is every v6 conversion I have seen done still has the same over heating issues as V8 conversions. They still have the same drive line strength issues etc etc etc. So the only real differance is with a V8 you will need to move a few other things out of the way and plan a few more things out first, big deal.

im swapping in a 3.0TD motor from a KZN130 surf halfcut into my LN106.
its almost a direct swap- you need to move the mounts backwards 40mm, get an adaptor plate to bolt the R151 gearbox to the hilux G52 transfer case and thats it.
The wiring- you have to modify the loom to get rid of the ADD shit and make it so there is one wire from the transfer case to the dash to turn on the 4wd light, and thats pretty much it. Just unplug the hilux loom under the front seats, and remove everyting forwards. Do the same for the halfcut, and swap them.
Just for comparisons, the 2.8D makes 60kw/198nm (when new!) and uses 12-14L/100.
the 3.0TD makes 86kw/285nm - thats without any intercooling, big exhaust or chips, and uses 10-12L/100
I paid $6200 for my halfcut, delivered to work in adelaide from Qld (it was an 800kg 2mx1.5mx1.2m pallet!)
Failing that, ive got a 345,000km old 3L motor thats now surplus to requirements!

Not that motor, but currently installing a 4.1L 15B-F (from a Dyna) into a Hilux , the car is a complete ground up rebuild so it hasn't been tested yet (hopefully finish around christmas).stool wrote:Has anyone ever put a dyna 200 3.7 L 4cyl in a lux
As our work truck is dam good on fuel IE constant 10L per 100kms
in a loaded truck.
Not a drop in swap, far from it, but its not too hard considering its nearly twice the engine of the old 2L. I think the 15B-F pumps out a reasonable 290Nm@1800rpm, and 90kW@3200rpm (off hand numbers).
Wheeling on completely wicked angles, without even looking stable.
