HJ47 transfercase shifter vibration

Post by Breeze »

Hi all,
I've got an '81 HJ47 with low k's.It runs like a train but the transfer shifter has a vibrating noise. When I put my hand on the top the vibration/noise stops. The transfercase works fine and is not noisy when in operation.
Can anyone tell me what might cause this and how can I fix it?
Any help appreciated.
Cheers :?

There would be bushing where the linkages go from the shifter to the case. Maybe these bushings are busted. Would take two seconds to slide under and wobble and shake a few things.

Easy fix is to keep your hand on it :D

As stated above climb under and check for any movement. There are a couple of plastic bushings that may need replacing.
