80 series gas conversion

Hey im looking at getting gas put into my 80 series petrol gxl, can anyone tell me anything about it, benifits, how much money you save per tank, and litre to 100km ratio, Thanks.

I just put my 4.5lt 80 on gas, it needs to go back and be retuned as it will not idol at all. It runs ok once going but will not idol.

Currently I'm getting 28lts to the 100kms on gas around town running 35's. I have only put 2 full tanks in it, still on the 3rd so can't give much more then that.

On petrol we used to get about 26lts to the 100kms for the same type of driving.

From an 85lt gas tank, we get around 320-350 kms around town, and over 400 freeway driving.

I also get around 28lt per 100 km on 35's. Even though it uses more gas the saving are huge about half the cost. Mine had a few running problems when it was first fitted and I had to replace the aftermarket O2 sensor the gas company put in with an original now it's good. I also got a extra 10% better economy after fitting a part time kit, this surprised me because I figured it was just selling hype.

Where'd they mount the filler?

Ran into one in tewantin the other day that had an 80 series running gas, they hooked the filler up under the rear bar and after a bit of mud etc had somehow forced its way under the plastic cap, they had all sorts of trouble filling it.

I fitted the gas filler, its in the behind the fuel filler door. With a bit of work you can fit the petrol cap and the gas cap in there

I get around 30l/100km's on LPG running 33's. On a trip I can get it down to 22-23l/100km's. There is a drop in power but you get used to it very quickly. I think my tank is 110l with about 90l usable but I have managed to squeeze 100l in it on the odd occassion. My LPG filler is under the fuel flap next to the petrol filler.

Petrol: 25l/100kms. 25x$1.40=$35

LPG: 30l/100km. 30x$0.67=$20.10


So you save about $15 per 100km's or around $45 a tank.

It's one of the best things I ever did and I did mine just before the rebate was brought in so I paid full price for it.

Hey guys good news got the gas installed and im loving it. local bloke had a special on, cost me $2600 but i only payed $600 and the 2 grand came out of my account when i got my grant.
Stats:
approx 22lt/100 petrol at $1.40 per litre = $30.80/100km
Now: 25lt/100km at 69 cents per litre = $17.25/100k

saving 13-14 dollars per 100k's

thats 40- 50 bucks a week, shit yeah its worth it!

oh and i dont notice the loss of power unless on a really steep hill

Good to hear you're happy with it. It'd be pretty painful to the wallet to drive a petrol 4.5l Landcruiser not on LPG these day.

Yeah ours is great for saving dollars.
But we find it gutless as hell
Runs ok untill you put the foot down to take off from the lights etc. It then basicly stalls and you have to feather the pedal to get it to go
Think I just need to get it re tuned but its a matter of getting around to it

I have a 80 series "93" with a 4.5ltr with over 380000 klm,s on gas for the last 2-3 years and there is no loss of power or milage. When I had standard tyres on it I was getting up to 440klm from around 85 ltrs. Ask your local Toyota dealer who fits gas to there new cars. I did because there are many dodgy gas places out there and Toyota wouldn't give there cars to anyone. Also get it on a dyno to tune it properly. It makes a big difference.

my work mate got gas on his falcon wagon yeterday he got told it was goin2 be this much and whaen they droped car off at gas place they said if the plugs and leads need 2 be changed it would be more monney the the sh#t thing bout this was you need 2 run different spark plugs and leads 2 run your car on gas and they know this but dont add this 2 the price it extra so it cost him bout $ 150 more he was not happy jan

I think your mate got ripped off. My cruiser uses standard leads and plugs. Unless other cars need to use different ones. I haven't heard of this.

Yeah you can get specific plugs and leads but not something you have to have, just means the plugs he had would prob wear out quicker.

A mate has a 95 model 4500 80 series and was told it wouldn't go on gas .. something about the head crapping itself? Anyone with knowledge or info on this or is it a myth??

if you keep it well tuned and look after the shim clearance check at 1/2 the interval of petrol u should be ok - at least that's my current line of thinking ... I installed one range colder spark plugs the day before I gave it to be converted ...

Done 15000 k's since conversion, head is still fine!
