SWB Hilux??

Post by Fmx_Aus »

G'day,

How sought after are early model (91) 'limited' short wheel Base Hilux's??

Was talking to a mate today and he said he has been looking for one for a fair while.

Thanks a heap.

There never any swb hilux's.

What you are referring too are those hilux's which have underwent a 'chop n trim', the rear is cutt off, In some cases the chassis are cut too.
Popular on recon units from Japan in early to mid 90's.

Sorry but the SWB hilux was available in the US up untill 96 i beleive it was. In Australia we only got the 81-84 in the SWB. We never received any in the newer models.

You wrote 91 model??

A mate had one years ago. Ive seen prob 20 over the years getting around Brisbane but non for a while. They are getting very rare and most are long eaten with rust now.

You can fit a 89+ cab and an extra cab tray on them if you really want a later one but you need to modify some mounts.

Ahh sh!t I meant 81 model bud.

I have a 81 Model with a Commo V6 in it with Marks adaptor kit, 33" claws ect ect bit of rust through the body. Was just wondering if there is many around these days and what the prices would be.

Arn't the 61 series 4runners ('84-'88) a SWB? and the first 2 or so years of them are still rigid axled!

As for finding a genuine SWB ute, my father originally wanted to get one, but gave up because it was not worth the effort (for what he wanted anyway). Funny thing is we saw one drive past us as we bought the standard WB hilux he ended up buying, lol Murphy again.
Wheeling on completely wicked angles, without even looking stable.

There is a huge one over my way, rusty, old, 35s.. I have always loved the look of them, kinda like the short bed F-trucks.

Really useless as a ute, but AWESOME poser value!

There are pics of a swb hilux on a website that makes water-air intercoolers here in aus.
Its a coil surf chassie with a single cab and a extra cab body, The only thing they had to do was change the tray mounts, looks very cool

Brother-In -Law just picked one of these up (RN36).
No rust, couple of little dents in the styleside. All round very clean.
Anyone got some more specs on them?
