Steel tubing supplier - SE Melb

Post by ash_on_mtb »

I'm having a crack at a set of side step/sliders, and need to source some materials. Obviously funds don't allow the purchase of fabbed steps, so its back out with the stick and the grinder...

I need about 12m of roughly 40mm OD tubing, based in SE Melbs. Anyone got any suggestions of good value tubing could be found. Also, whats the difference between 'structural' tubing and 'medium' tubing. And finally, as I'm obviously not the first to do this, has anyone got some useful experiences in terms of materials?! I've got a rough plan on how to get what I want, but the steel is the sticking point. Educate me.

Is anyone on here in the steel business that we can help out?

thanks all,

there are two places i know of, handyman steel in moorabbin: the fellas there are very friendly and well priced, (i think that they do have tube), and second if you were thinking of stainless steel, fagersta also in moorabbin (last time i checked) and they do everything stainless.

you also might want to get some quotes for supply and manufacture to your specs, you might find it turns out to be well priced (i think handyman steel do it, but not fagersta)

good luck!

Hows that sound? What else should I look for?
