with out wheel spacers, what do you all consider the largest width you could run would be, in realation to wheel bearings, rim strenght etc.
And ruff lim gaps and bottie dont count.

the vehicle is as stock as it was the day it rolled of the toyota factoy floor.
the front axle is stock, has a locker, moved forward 3 inch and will soon have longs.
The suspension as been swaped out, and has about 3 inch of lift, the geometery is close to being standard bar everying being forward.
Basically i want to a achieve a wider wheel track through IFS hub swap and rims, am interested to see what people have done and how it was held up for both wear and tear and realiabitlty.

Nick,
I understand from your thread thjat you have "swapped" out the front axle? If yes, geometry has already altered. We need to know more.
Is this a Surf? You may widen the track with spacers. This will increase unsprung weight and increase the compound leverage on everything attached to the front end. Now there is nothing wrong with IFS, but, you are limited as I expect you already understand, with the amount of droop and bump that you may be wanting to increase on the IFS because it is an IFS.
More data please.

yeah it is a surf, and it is soild. When i say IFS hubs, you take the hubs from a IFS truck and fit them to a solid front diff, thus giving you close to 3 inch in width avoiding the use of wheel spacers.
I understand that the leverage is increased with width, but at any point is it too wide and it become un effective?

You will have a fair bit more loading on the wheel bearings bu I dont think that it would matter much cause it wont break anything but things just might wear out faster.
I think the biggest effect will be the change in the steering geometry with the spacers. The steering wheel will be harder to turn and it will be more prone to self steering when you hit a bump and I guess it would "tram line" worse. But nothing that should be too much of a worry.
I think that basically everything we do to our rigs makes them drive worse on the road and this mod is no different.

width
might sound dum nick but y not look at a wider factory diff like say out of a 60 or 80 or nissan or sumthin that way the diffand bearins and everythin is designed 2 have the extra width and that if that makes sense if ya worried bout it breakin

..
Plus if u swap in sumthin like a crusa or nissan diff wont it b stronger so ya kinda killin 2 birds with 1 stone.
on the down side ya mite loose a bit of clearence under the pumpkin but the extra strength will aloow 2 u run bigga meat without the fear of bustin shite
