Tyre Pressures - Cooper STs on a Patrol
I've heard so many different pressures it's driving me nuts.
I have a set of 285 (33") 70r17 Cooper STs on the patrol.
What pressure should I be running on the black stuff?

Seems to track better, & psi increases with the weight is about 5psi.

Probably because he would have about 2cm of tyre touching the ground. I run 38 front and 36 rear on my 4.2 GU wagon with 265/75's.ddr wrote:Why?joeblow wrote:WHOLLY CRAP!...hate to have you hitting the brakes behind me!...in the wet or dry.......ddr wrote:I usually run 48-50 on road most of the time.

As I said earlier I have several times run the "Pirelli" measurement of 4-6psi increase between hot & cold pressures on my Patrol & it heats up usually about 5psi. Which is exactly in the range, Ive also discussed it with experts & its all good.
Im happy that its very safe, measured properly & not overheating the tyres. Lower pressures DOES cause tyre failure due to heat, & 36 PSI causes MY ST's with the weight im carrying to overheat.
Have you ever measured properly? or just making assumptions?
Perhaps if you'd mentioned weight in your original post it may have been less controversial.ddr wrote:LOL, so you know my truck? its day to day load?

48-50 psi in a lightly loaded Patrol is too much.
On the subject of weight, how much are you carrying?
According to your votes, somewhere between 34-40 is good.
That's about what I would have thought - I'd have probably gone 36 front 38 rear without the advice herein, and that's in the middle of most people's suggestion.
I won't even START on how far to let them down (if at all) when you go bush - there's a massive can of worms there.
