By Jimny, the Sierra is back...WTF
By Jimny, the Sierra is back...WTF
i heard in the radio today that the local Suzuki dealership ins have a sale thing on this weekend, with the new Grand Vitara Trekker, and the ever rugged sierra... noe that gets me to thinking...from wot i was aware the Suzuki sierra was not made after 1997/98, so i did a bit of 'E'search during my lunch break and discovered this...
"
Suzuki brings back Sierra badge
EIGHT years after the last Suzuki Sierra was sold in Australia, the company has brought the name back by adding the badge to its Jimny micro-SUV.
Suzuki Australia general manager Tony Devers said that the Jimny will now be known as the Jimny Sierra because “the Sierra name has assumed cult status” and “owners have told us they wanted the Sierra name to live on”.
Apart from the badge, the model is otherwise unchanged and continues to sell from $19,990"
i dont no if i like that idea...[/b]

Ahhh.. this actually happened about 2 months ago... by adding 'Sierra' they hope to show that it's a 'real' 4WD... and that it will stay a solid axle front end with low range... unlike how the Vits are heading
DRS smells like a cat-food milkshake... and wet socks... and gorgonzola cheese... all whizzed up in a blender
But it doesn't, Cinderella lost her shoe and the ugly sister couldn't get it on. Same family but not the same fit.GRPABT1 wrote: so I say if the shoe fits....
OK if Suzuki can get away with re-badging the Jimny the Sierra, I'm going to back label coily Sierras as Jimnys, they share just as much in common after all. Therefore Sierras ceased in early 1996.
Wonder if they'll now rename the Grand Vitara the Vitara. Maybe call it a Grand Vitara Vitara in keeping with the double name style. Wahoooo Suzuki rocks.
Ok I'll shut up.
Wheeling on completely wicked angles, without even looking stable.

the jimny has always been a sierra... as matter fact you can say the lj's are also sierra's (why not suzuki japan have always said that the jimny/sierra strength lay in the fact they couldn't make it bigger than the kei car regulations so they didn't get lost in the bigger engine--->bigger car--->bigger engine--->bigger car spiral that jeep an other manufacturers have)

I heard the ad and got excited then I remembered somthing about in japan jimny means "little jeep" = strong
but outside of japan jimny is just a liitle cricket, not really that stong.
So they brought backthe name sierra as its well known as a tough little off roader.
Well thatsmy understanding of it anyway.

its always been a jimny and called a sierra in aus and when the new one came the japs wanted the jimny name to be worldwide, suzuki australia have never been happy with this and have been pushing from day one to change it back and the double name is a sign the they are cracking, if this goes well you will sell the next version called a sierra again and i say about time
