Warn winch wont reverse

Post by mike_nofx »

Hey guys, i have a question about my Warn winch.
Its a 9000lb winch (cant thing of exact model off the top of my head) and ever since ive owned the vehicle its fitted to reverse has not worked on the winch.
It will 'winch in' perfectly fine, and free spool out, but when i try to 'winch out' it just makes a click noise (solenoid?) but nothing happens!

What could the problem be?

Do these winches require any routine servicing, or regreasing/oiling?

Thanks

I had the same probmlem on my thomas winch. It would reel out but not in. Not very handy stuck to the guts in sand. I asked around, alot of people said it was the solenoids, but what I found was the solenoids earth through the plate they are mounted on. The nut had come loose and it wasn't getting a good earth. I just pulled it all apart, cleaned it with a wire brush and put it back together. It has worked fine ever since.

One of the solenoids not pulling in.
As stated check small earth wire onto plate (add if not there) clean mounts for solenoids, tap solenoids, replace if one is still sticky.

Cleaned all terminals, both on winch, and in solenoid box. Now works fine in both directions.

What is the small earth wire you are talking about baz?
Thanks
