WHY NOT IMPORT MODS??

Im here for the sausage!
WHY NOT IMPORT MODS??
Quick question??
after doing some browsing online, i have found that all things good, strong, big and tough for 4x4s can be sourced cheaper from USA.
Especially as the almighty aussie dollar is now over the 70 cents US mark.
This being the case i am wondering why people dont purchase things from overseas??
Obvioulsy this has been thought of before? but why wont it work??
Im very puzzled why this cant work??
please help.
example a 36" Swamper tyre for $200 US = less then 300 Aussie money.
retail here would be ???? 500+.

You are right from the point of view of price, but a Q78 is not exactly hand luggage.
The logistics of packing the items OS, getting them here physically, and processing them here (customs etc) is best left to the guys who do it for a job, those guys run businesses, so you can see why it's not a common thing, because it aint that easy. Some things are legitimately and easily imported, but you gotta do some research first. It can be done, homework is the operative word.

Built, not bought.
Some people do import part and accessories from the USA but it is not as easy as it may sound. You need to send big stuff by sea freight so you have to have someone pack a can for you so you can ship it.
Don't forget
+15% or +5% (depends on type of part) duty and + 10% on the purchase price plus the duty plus the freight cost.
Plus unloading cost,
Customs inspections, quarantine inspections all add to the hassle

Have seen Q78 16LT for American $167.00 = 225.97

Being in Lebanon we got to import EVERYTHING. Glad to say that some times things work out right, but its just not fair...Americans have the swampers, Warns, Jeeps made there, and Aussies have the OME/ARB made there...
One thing for sure though, since we are shipping anyways, we usually make sure we're getting teh BEST part for our rigs, since we don't have to buy anything local
