ive got one of direct clutch services twin diaphragm clutchs and its nuts, daily driver, i run 36's every day, done about 50000 k's on it, tow my race car, do burnouts, go bush etc and it doesent slip, ever!!!! well worth the money indeed
Gu Ute td42t, dzltech turbo, front mount and aus4wd manifold, 18 x 10 rims and 36 15.5 mickey t's for bling
That would be the Australian Clutch Services Extreme Outback. I just fitted one to mine after the std wasnt up to the turbo. So far its excellant no heavier than before on the clutch pedal and no slippage etc.macey wrote:thanks mate, heard they were good. I was told there was another clutch similar to the safari, but with 40% more clamp power, just dont know the name, think it was all terrain clutch maybe?

ahh isnt the safari tuff made by exedy?icrawl wrote:go the exedy clutch better than both
personally i went the clutch industries 4 terrain clutch,
http://clutchindustries.com.au/range/4t ... lutch.html
from what ive found its everything its stated, light on the pedal.
for the price i paid, i couldnt go wrong
I didn't think the hilux ones were too bad actually. I've done four in the last 10 years, just need someone to lay down under the truck and catch the box & transfer
Last time i paid for a clutch to get fitted, it cost about $1000 from memory - and that was for a standard clutch. I'll have to dig out the receipt for it to confirm.

i have to lift out my engine for my clutch as there isnt enough room for the bellhousing to slide back and down. BUT, go to a hire place and get a gearbox lift thingy. makes it very light, you just need your tongue in the right place as the bellhousing can be a pita on the nissan 6s to line straight up with the engine missing the firewall.
turbos are nice but i'd rather be blown
dont waste your time with a RPM clutch, not any better then a standard clutch.
Last price on the exedy safari tuff clutch was $600ish, its got a higher clamp preasure then the sports but is a bit more expensive.
I run custom clutchs made by Nicks performance clutches in archerfeild qld 07 3277 9403, they are a special isuzu/nissan clutch made by them at a good price. feel like a standard clutch to drive, I have 3 of them.

I have spoke with Exedy, xtreme clutches and clutch industries.
Clutch industries says that the 4 terrain is the way to go but must get the kit with the half button half standard clutch plate, they will not quote clamp pressure, he said 25% increase and recons they sh#@t over the safari tuff (safari claims 30% increase but does not have the same clutch plate). Safari tuff is 970Kg pressure. Xtreme recconmends the cushion button clucth kit, it has 1050Kg of pressure.
All clutch kits are similar price...around the 600+ mark. $ terrain was the cheapest 533+.
Must compare apples with apples here. Half these clucth kits people are quoteing prices on are not the same.
Most are the standard HD upgrade clutch, which in my opinion are a waist of time(depends severly on application) if you are a 'hardcore' wheeler and have some decent power.
Has anyone used the 4 terrain hd kit with the clutch plate that is button one side and normal the other? This is meant to be 4 terrains best clutch kit. Part no' 4T 1697N
So far i am not convinced with any of them.

Hi Guys, my GU 4.2 TD needs a clutch soon and I was thinking about a 4terrain also.
What is everyone doing with the flywheel on the GU. Leave as is and just replace clutch?
I have heard some have replaced the fly with a solid and hated it.
I have heard some say replace it but cost big $$$$
And some say just leave it at replace clutch as you cant machine that Flywheel.
Its a little confusing.
Cheers

2000 GU II 4.2TD
just got mine done - $2k fitted
custom clutch from an unknown mob in Melb, 33% more clamp than exeedy/safari etc with modified lever points on the plate. full flywheel off and machine as previous slipping had actually burnt and fractured it, fitted at a turbo/performance tuner place in Brisbane & lighter pedal feel than the wifes excel!
Expensive but he reckons never had a returned one yet running on 200kw+ td42's. i got 130rwkw on 35's on std diff gears (and 992Nm) just went out on the weekend and ran 35" simex at 10 pound on beadlocks and gave it plenty - perfect no slip at all. Overall happy and i didn't have to crawl under the truck either.
PS - the td4s flywheel is machinable (ie not a dual mass one) they are only on the 3lts... i think
