Winch Solenoids - Are these any good

The old horizontally opposed Warn solenoids were a problem with sticking and run on etc.
Whats wrong with the vertical mount Warn solenoids? The noids themselves are sealed and only about 40 bucks each.

I am going to go out on a lim and say that we will never find out because they are probably the same.

Well, given that we havent had a reply from anyone selling the expensive ones, it doesn't really overwhelm me with confidence in having to fork out the extra bucks for a "quality" expensive unit.

As soon as i finish rebuilding my high mount i'll be placing an order with tigerz11 for a solenoid/billet hawse fairlead and some synthetic rope. He's got some good prices on his eBay shop. And i also see that Hobzee is re-selling tigerz11's hawse fairleads for an extra $5 more than tigerz11..... hhhhmmmmm......

As the titan is encased in a resin\epoxy (from memory) I dont see how he could safely crack one open, as they are worth a few hundred a piece I know as a business owner I would not be willing to rip one apart to show some folks on a builliten board.

The titan soliniods have been used on comp trucks under exteme condtions without failure ..The guy selling em is well know on the 4x4 circut and stands by his products, that would be good enough for me.

And if you were going to make a few sales out of it, considering that the solenoid doesn't actually cost $225, i would at least track down some photos from the manufacturer to feed everyones curiosity. Surely someone on here would know what the insides of a Titan solenoid looks like.

I think you might want to re-assess the above statement tigerz as it is completely false and misleading.

There has been no price change whatsoever, anywhere that Titan Solenoids are sold end of story.

The reason there has been a lack of replies is because the people mentioned earlier in this thread are all at the Outback Challenge they're competitors and/or event organisers who actually know something about what they are selling people, rather than just punting products they know nothing about, ala:

As far as some of the other statements go all I can say to those of you reading this thread, as most people on here know, my gear is tried, tested and proven, 4wding has been a passion of mine for over 15 years and I have competed for about the last 8 years in offroad racing in various forms, the products I sell I have tried and proven personally on mine and other competition trucks under some of the worst competition conditions before selling them to anyone else. I tested the first Titan Solenoid for about 4 months before I sold one to another competitor, who was actually Coighty - Paul Gambell who has now done I think 3 Outback Challenges, 2 Cliffhangers and a huge number of other winch comps on the same Titan Solenoid pack and its still going strong!

I don't bullshit people and I don't need to put shit on anyone else to sell my product or make false statements, they sell themselves because they are proven and most are sold by word of mouth, I do charge what I beleive is a fair and affordable price for the product and I stand by it.

In terms of what does the solenoid look like on the inside, they all look very similar, what makes the difference is the design of the contacts and the materials used on the tip of the contacts, the quality of the springs used on the contacts also makes a big difference as I found out early on. There is a lot to be said for the Quality control from the manufatcurer, I have spent considerable time going back to the manufacturer reporting any inefficincies which have been resolved.

It is worth mentioning that you can buy this type of unit anywhere in the world from any number of manufacturers, United Kingdom, Asia, USA, Europe, it is only the quality and minor design differences that change from one to the next, the prices also vary greatly, as does the quality. You just need to know what you are buying, I was lucky to have had a friend who is an extremely cluey person in this area who helped me get started and do the research. There is actually an international standard for this product, thats how readily available they are worldwide, but you have to get the right model/type.

I have nothing against anyone doing business or selling a cheaper product, what I do dislike is people being intentionally misleading to make a sale or create question about the integrity of others.

Yep i do. Actually i've seen the insides of three of them.
We were not the first ones to use them but we may have been the first ones to destroy one.
And After that Paul was extremly obliging and helpful in replacement of the solenoid and he was heavily invovlved in some research and testing as to why the solenoids failed and how to ensure it didn't happen in the future.
I still use a titan solenoid myself. And i've got to say the product support recieved after the failure was great. He genuinely cared about what happened and why. That's why he stands behind his product.
The solenois are not true solid state in the sense that the switching still occurs through a set of contacts, not transition. The actual solenoids are completely sealed, but the contacts are servicable which makes it more appealing as it can be serviced. The top is sealed with a silicone based gasket and fastened with threaded screws. Even after some severe punishment we opened our solenoid and found NO dust, water or foreign material.
