Broken Rear axles

Post by NJV6 »

You guys who have broken rear axles on the smaller diff- I seem to remember there being a couple on here.

Does it trash the locker?

Reason I ask is I am getting another Paj Jtop with a locker and have considered transplanting it to mine which has the bigger diff. But if it is (the axle) going to break with load (bearing in mind I broke the locker in mine) I won't bother if it trashs the diff. I'd rather be changing a axle than a locker. I have spare small axles!

tore apart the bearing carrier and locker cap last time, total cost including $150 for the axle, roughly $600.

I wonder, if someone does keep breaking them.....

A friend had a Series 2 LR with a holden 186 in it and from time to time it'd break axles. He ran a thing grove around the axle near the outside with a hacksaw so it always broke there - made a fuse so to speak. Never ever did any damage and becasue they were fully floaters , changed in about 10 mins!

So do ya reckon I should swap....
