80 series gearbox
i have a 93 80 series 1hz and gearbox is about stuffed and i have a gearbox out of 95 4.5litre petrol 80 series which had a full time transfer , will it bolt in and r the ratios all the same and will my part time transfer fit onto it , any info would be good.
Box behind a 1HZ uses a an 11" clutch and the 4.5 litre/1HDT uses a 12" clutch. They also have a different input shaft spline so clutches aren't inter-changable. Not sure about bell housing bolt pattern though.
The input shafts are inter-changablethough. With the help of Wally (80UTE) I fitted an input shaft from a buggered 4.5 litre box to my 1HZ box, and an overhaul kit, and had a 1HZ flywheel drilled to suit the 12" clutch. This resulted in an easy clutch upgrade providing you have got a 4.5 litre box input shaft lying around
What is wrong with your 1HZ box?

Agreed, the damper in the new HD clutch plate will be quite robust, in comparison to the stuffed one in your old plate.punk_180 wrote:that rattle in neutral is normal. If you have a listen to most cars they do it. Especially heavy duty clutches. My old 200sx clutch sounded like someone was rattling bolts in the gearbox, but it was fine once engaged.
Even my 80 does it.
