Suzuki Gti Conversion

Post by JacZook »

Hi all

I am in the process of doing a Gti Swap on my 1991 Sierra and I have decided to chop the firewall to make the Distributor fit.
I have searched everywhere for a mazda 323 GTX Distributor Gap and rotor button but have had no luck.
Does any one know where to find one in Sydney or maybe even the stock code number I have checked with Supercrap and repco but they only have the other Mazda 323 model caps which are a bit different.

thanks ahead

try Fordlaser.com, don't massacre your firewall. There are other alternatives

(like aftermarket ecu and distributorless ignition)

X eleventygazillion, Don't cut the firewall. No heater fan= no demister= no roadworthy.

Mazda cap, right angle drive, coil packs, baleno/jimny/GV 1.6 head.... anything except ruining the car.

My 2C.

Stevey agrees with me?

(very emotional moment)

As for the right angle adaptor it apparently only good for SA413 gti's commonly known on the web as Mk1, but don't despair if you have a later model motor as i have a ECu kicking around that you can have for like $35 and then you need the loom.

Alternatively (and this is a better option) You can get a cheap fuel only aftermarket ecu (which i also have but its mine, mine, all mine) and use your existing loom.

Now for some speculation,

it is also possible to fool the later model ecu's into thinking they are firing but the ignition be handled by the sierra dizzy but it may set it into limp mode and generate a lot of fault codes.

It may be possible to lock the sierra dizzy mechanical advance , remove the vacuum and triggered by the ecu through some sort of conversion process

All in all options are there

those right angle drive thingas only work on the MK1 engine (or so im told)

ive got the mazda dizzy on mine, ill get you some part numbers tonight if i remember. it is a tight squeeze tho.

will you be running the standard computer? if not, get it set up for 4x coil packs (or 2x with wasted spark) and adapt a cam/crank sensor from a 4age

i boxed the firewall on my fist zook and i don't regret doing it. for me it was more important to have a reliable engine than a reliable heater. i also retained a satisfactory heater. after boxing the fire wall i cut the back out of the heater box, reduced the size of the fan and remanufactured the rear end of the heater box. a bit of mucking around but it gave me peace of mind that the dizzy was never going to cause any undue reliabilty issues
jason
ps. this does not allow for a body lift. lifting the body means no heater core, which means no warm air, which means its not a conversion its a engine fitment........

Mine has no heater or fan an boxed firewall and I had no dramas with roadworthy in QLD, but it may be because I know who to go see for a RWC. Although when researching for when I removed the heater from my commonwhore I found that the "heat" is not required, just forced air onto the windscreen. Apparently alot of hot rodders get away with some booty fab ducting and a dodgey 12V fan just for the RWC and then remove it.

c'mon, he is not doing a ute chop, he is boxing a firewall. hardly what i would call wrecking a car. with all the cutting and grinding of wheel arches, body panels, suspension and chassis alterations i think this rates fairly low on the butchering scale.
JacZook you have already cut it so you have made your decision. box the damn wall and get your engine running, then tidy up the heater ( at least get the demister working) as far as after market ecu, jimny/ baleno head and angle drives go, if you start spending money to fit the 13b you have defeated the purpose of using that engine( there cheap compared to other efi zook engines) if you want to spend money get the tried and tested g16b otherwise keep to a budget and finish what you started
