Who can do welding of thin wall aluminium tubing in melb?
Hi guys,
I've got some 3" aluminium tubing and elbows that I intend to use to make up a snorkel. Both the tubing and elbows are quite thin walled so I know it is very difficult to weld. Is there anyone here that can do it or knows someone that can? Naturally I'll pay for the work.
Hopefully someone can help me out here as I got the 3" tubing free.
can i use a mate to position while i screw?
i know youve got the answers now on who can weld it, but aren't you worried at all about it cracking? depending on how thin it is if its all welded together - rather than using some sort of flexible joining method (rubber elbows) it wouldn't take much for it to crack over time.
Also depending on where it sits it may dent easily if it contacts tree branches, thats why most people use 304 or 316 with a 1.5mm wall.
just my opinion

There are no stupid questions, but there are a LOT of inquisitive idiots
Thanks for the tip patroler, My whole car is made out of thin aluminium so it will all dent up evenly lol.
That is a good point about the cracking though, I'll have a flexible joiner on it so the engine torque rolling won't put any unnecessary strain on it. I guess i'll have to mount it carefully so the vibration of the body doesn't crack it either. I"ll run with it and see how it goes.
