LN106 vs Bundera axles?Lockrite ques about strength and more

Post by BabyGodzillaGTi-R »

Hi guys currently doing a Toyota 3LT plus entire drive train conversion into my Daihatsu Rocky. Donor car is a LN106.

I'm quite curious to find out how does the LN106 axles stand up against a LandCruiser II (Bundera) axles?

I heard the only major difference is that the front Bundera axles are high pinions.
How about the axles and spline count of the Hilux vs the Bundera?

I'm asking as i'm wondering if the Hilux axles will cope with Simex XT 36x12.5 tyres or i'm safer off with 35x10.5s.

I'm running Lock Rites on the Hilux axles. U think they can stand the abuse of 36 x 12.5s?
I notice my lock rites are pretty noisy compared to my Detroit equipped Rocky and the lock rite engages slower on right corners.
Does that mean i need to replace the pins, pinion, springs on my Lock Rite? U know where i can buy them online.

Best Regards
Victor

Victor,

There's no major difference between your axles and mine. So, they have, more or less, the same strengths and weaknesses.

For your hilux against a bundera, or j70, the spline count is the same.

I did not know you had lockrites front and rear? Explains a few things haha

Anyway, click click sound is normal. Upgrade to ARB lah...

So hows the progress?

FYI I maybe buying a feroza and installing the spare lj70 axles, bundera, gearbox and 2.8, 3L, engine.....anyway thats a different story... :P

Best regards,

Neil.

Hi V8Zuk, thanks for the info... So u're saying that Bundera axles are narrower (width) wise compared to the Hilux?

I'm curious what's the biggest size tyres people are willing to run on LockRites? Anyone know who's a good person to buy the spring/ pin kit from?
Anyone here have destroyed LockRites on a Hilux? What was the scenario that cause it's destruction and how big tyres u were running?
Cheers

You can get Lock-Right's to suit LSD's from Richmond gear.
