GM V6 to 60series g'box
Has anyone done a conversion with the Commo V6 into a 60 series bolted up to the 5 speed box??
I'm not interested in doing this actual conversion, as it wouldn't provide enough power to justify it.... but just want to know where to source the bellhousing/adapter kit to suit and any other inherant problems with wiring etc!!
I may just have a little project to play with in the near future... If I can get all the info.

I doubt anyone makes a kit to do it, as the commo V6 doesn't produce enough low down torque to make it a good choice for a heavy cruiser. the only good thing about the motors is that they are cheap, and compact, which is good for a lux, but there are bigger motors that will fit in a 60 that'll do a better job (falcon 6, various v8's etc).

I don't want to put it into a cruiser, just that I have a cruiser 5 speed and diffs to match that I could throw under the rig I want to build... hence why I am after an adapter kit. The rig I want to put it under is a patrol G60(old school 70's type model) and it's much lighter compared to a cruiser.
Reason Im after a commo V6 is purely for those two reasons too.... compact and readily available.... if I blow it up I like the look of the old patrols and have the g'box n diffs at home.... with air lockers in em so thats where I got the idea from..... lighter rig, more power, wide track, lockers, maybe a coil convo... getting the picture

I personally don't think the Commo V6 is enough motor for a G60 myself, so take what i say next with a grain of "his opinion only". people often think they have more pull than they do due to the commo's having a low diff ratio. they need to be revved a fair bit to get em to boogy. a consideration if your running cruiser stuff, considering 4.11 is as low as factory ratio's go, and 4.88's and 5.29's are available, but are $$$.
factory low range is only around 2:1.
Falcon I6's fit easily in a G60, and are just as cheap, but are better motors, and make more low down torque.
If you've got your heart set on a commo V6 tho, the best way would be to use the auto that came behind it (t700?) adapted to the cruiser T-case. pretty sure marks adapters and a few others do that adapter.

Dont think anyone does that exact coneversion. You could try http://www.v6conversions.com.au/ and they might be able to help.

the newer they are the more advanced. The earliest ones worth bothering with are the crossflows (4.1 litre, long stroke, lazy 6). late 70's (early 80's for the alloy head) are the years for that. produced more power and torque than the original cruiser motors, but at less than 2/3's the weight, and a more compact package. these have been built up to do 9 second passes in cortina's (and falcons if you bring turbocharging into the equation). 7 bolt mains etc mean they are a bit tougher than the commo 6. can be had for less than $100 for a good runner. usually with the rest of the rusted out falcon attached. easy to wire, simple to fix. Easy as to put on gas, and with a gas cam make gobs of low down torque. you'll probably get the conversion with the car.
The next model (EA, EB series 1) saw capacity dropped to 3.9, with an overhead cam. these are known as boat anchors (they tended to blow head gaskets). the 4 litre (EB series 2 - AU series 3), is based on the same block etc , but has less drama's, gobs of torque, and make decent power (the ED XR6 was a v8 killer). probably as hard to wire up as a commo v6, make as much power and much more torque. not bad on the juice, and LPG is simple.
The BA onwards motor... 200kw NA is easy to achieve, gobs of torque, 4 litre, DOHC. the XR6 Turbo motors are effectively the same motor with a snail bolted on, and put even the 6 litre gen 4's to shame with the torque output. expensive, hard to wire (but people have cracked how to do it). not as many conversion kits around for them.

So prob look for something about an XE/XF model falcon with the 4.1 donk with an auto behind it... then I can get an adapter kit to put the cruiser transfer onto it. On another note, what model did the falcon come out with fuel injection?? Would be good to get one with that rather than carby for offraod use.

Now you've opened a can of worms. you don't want the regular falcon Auto (Borg warner). i doubt anyone does an adapter for them, because they're about as strong as a trimatic (ok not that weak, but you get the picture).
if you want to go auto, you'd need a C4, which came in SOME Xb's, XC's and XD's behind the 6, usually as some form of towing pack. they also came behind the 8's, but it's a different bellhousing, flexplate and torque converter (and trans pan). or just buy one from ebay/wherever to suit. i got one in the backyard but i'm using it soon.
XE is when EFI was introduced, but some XE's and XF's came with carbie's too. it's easy to retrofit if you so desire. straight gas is my preferred option however (no side angle issues).

I have the dellows book and it has here a conversion for Commo V6 to Landcruiser 5 speed. Every conversion that I used a Dellows product there were problems. Marks dont do a kit for this, but they do a kit for Ford c4 and cruiser transfer. I was going to put xe Falcon 6 and c4 auto with marks adaptor to g60 transfer into s3 landy had auto rebuilt with new mainshaft for adaptor only $350 when I did the turbo 700 for hilux it was $1200. Still have the 6cyl c4 and adadtor sitting on my gararge floor as havent got around to it.
