80 sahara front locker into standard 80

Post by RAY185 »

Does the front 80 series sahara factory electric locker centre fit into the standard 80 series (GXL) front housing? I've heard the centre is larger and doesnt fit into the housing without maching. Also heard the stud pattern does not match. Can anyone confirm?

The housing needs to be modified.

Have a look here. Its an install into a hilux but the same mods need to be done on the 80 housing- http://67.122.16.97/carterman/4runner/mods/locker/

Big job....you would need to get the locker cheap to make it worth while, comparison to ARB or the like, which are bolt in....there is also alot of wiring frigging to make the factory one work too...Andrew

i have done it to my 80, it isnt hard if you got the know how.

but as dow5r said, you would have to be getting the lockers cheap enough to even bother modding (i got front for 500 and complete rear axle for 700 :D)

the electricals, if you want them to work factory like, it isnt an easy job.

this is the notch that has to be cut out (right hand side), and the stud pattern does change, 4 new holes have to be drilled and tapped.

btw, now that we are on the subject, does anybody know if the gears for open and elocker diffs are the same? aka interchangable

Yeah the elocker isnt quite cheap enough to warrant the mods unfortunately. Thanks for the replies.
