loud noise from rear gu

ok guys i am i need of so ideas on what to look for i have a 98 gu wagon 4.5 ltr it has 35 and 3" lift and sway bar dissconects now under load or takeing off but not all the time i get a very loud crack sound now i was thingin maybe uni joints or rear bushs or tailshaft what do you guys think where do i start thanks guys

Have you checked anything yet? Try the bushes on the rear arms maybe, or body mount rubbers possibly, or unis, or etc..

Sway bar connects - mine did the same thing, firm to the hand wiggle but needed a half turn tightening on the mounts on the bar end (not chassis end) usually went bang or clunk when underload and going over any cross up situatioin (like a gutter or something) - check them and check all else with a socket not to the "feel"

driveshaf bolts? is it castor plates or drop box lift? either way check that they are tight and your diff isnt flopping around... had that happen before and it makes a loud clunkin noise as you take off.

ok guys i havent yet looked under but i was thinkin it was the sway bar its really only done since then cus it does it over cross ups or down drop outs but ill go over every thing again thanks guys so benhl you did up the mounts on chassis firm and tight on the ball part of the swaybar end that right thanks again guys big big help

Yeah - just re-tension all bolts to about... as tight as you can get them Nm

mums GU does the exact same thing. Only under heaps of load though. It did it before and after the 3" lift.

It has no sway bars...

ok update been under it for 3 hours going over it from front to back sway bar connents were lose but now i have noticed that the rear tail shaft slip joint has a little movement have takern the wheels off and gone over diff same again little movement in axles no bearing movement so i am thinking that might be playing some part in all of this bit here bit there under load crack!! like i said does not do it all the time only in fast takeoff or under load still playing around with her if any one has more ideas glad to her off them thanks again for the help guys
