Most of the stuff we wanted to do will be finished by the end of June(when the school project is due and when we reveal it to our friends). Not sure if we will get to the snorkal and the air compressor though in that time, probably not.crackatinny wrote:nice work tho, i wish i did something like this while i was at school. will it be finished in time?joeblow wrote:ahhh crap...i gotta do bearings too.
As it stands today, we have to install wiring loom for spots, finish steering wheel install and trim rear cargo area sides with ali checker plate. Going to make a fold down table for the rear tailgate, with storage pockets in the door.

Fantastic Stuff Guys!!
Great to see a young girl not afraid to get her hands dirty, a Dad who is taking time to teach and help his daughter and even Mum's lending a hand. This is a project that will not just end with a fantastic piece of machinery… It will be something that you'll all cherish for years to come.
Looking forward to seeing the end result.

Well done - nice work. Can only hope that my little bloke will be keen to build a car with his old man when he is older.
Plus i am with 11_evl - check out my members page for what sort of rust/damage you can expect behind those sills.
http://www.izook.com/tech/samurai/body/ ... ockers.htm was handy for 'how to'.
maybe keep with the ali checkerplate theme and put some on there aswell?
Wish i had a spray booth set up at my place!
Cant wait to see how the beast turns out! Keep up the good work!

And now for some paint !
Whole car was wiped down with wax & grease remover, then wiped over with a 'tack rag'. This removes all the dust particles from the surface of the car.
Mixing up the first colour - grey
Adding thinners @ 1.5 / 1 ratio
First light coat of grey
Finished product in grey
Now for some PINK
Hailey ready for the PINK spray gun
and on with the first PINK colour

The original seets were in prity good nick, but we had seen some SAAS bucket seats on special at Autobarn, so thought Hailey might like them for an xmas pressi.
Here's how we fitted them:
First up was to make some adaptor plates to mate the original rails with the new seats.
Trial fitting the rails to the seats
Once we were happy with the fit, the adaptors were painted and refitted to the seats
The seats were then installed into the zook-perfect fit.

Can I put a suggestion forward... I've had chequer plate panels in cars before and they make it bloody cold (well colder than normal). Marine ply is HEAPS cheaper than ali chequer plate, the money saved by buying some 6mm ply would cover a cheap jigsaw from bunnings, a couple of square meters of marine carpet and some spray adhesive.cookie monster wrote:trim rear cargo area sides with ali checker plate.
But Ali is bling! will look great if you carry the ali theme throughout (door panels, rear panels, sills, rear quarter guards, etc)4130warrior wrote:Can I put a suggestion forward... But i went the wooden option in mine and it has turned out alright... dont know about the temperature tho - i just found it easier to work with...
Zooks are cold - wear a jumper
some nice wood stain, and roberts your fathers brother:
What offset are the F100 rims? they look familiar...

Or if you do decide chequer plate put down a strip of rubber between it or some silicone because no matter what you always end up with a rattle or rubbing noise of some sort. That and that area is a good spot for mounting up some 6x9's its a lot easier to cut the ply up, and if you want to ditch the marine carpet hit up Spotlight for any colour material you like......... Even pink fur to go with the paint job.........4130warrior wrote:Can I put a suggestion forward... I've had chequer plate panels in cars before and they make it bloody cold (well colder than normal). Thays exactly what we will be doing to the rear, but in ali checker plate.
Got the plate for $30 from a fabricator mate.
Was planning on triming the edges to stop rattles and give a bit of waterproofing.
We also have some ali checker plate corners for the rear panels, that we picked up cheap from a mechanic friend. Hence the ali for inside. The door pannels are in good nick, so will keep them on.

Before we started the paintwork, we went through the engine bay and gave it all a good service. Here's Hailey getting stuck into it.
Oil Change:
Undoing the sump plug
Out comes the old stuff
Off comes the filter
On goes the filter, after applying oil to the seal
Putting the fresh stuff in
Checking the level
Cleaning up
Old V New !!

That's some top work you 2 are doing.
Here's a thought. Since you've taken so many pics why not make a girl's guide to basic DIY car maintenance - oil/filter/tyre change, rust touch up etc.
A pic-based book is heaps better then a words-based book like most of the other manuals out there.
