the short, short version:

you need the oil pressure sender + install to engine.

you need to r&r the injection pump, disassemble, drill and tap, and install the tach sensor. (or get a pump off a 75 or 80 with a tach).

you need to either install the overhead console or some trick wiring and a switch so you can get a level on both fuel tanks.

you need to get the right instrument cluster, there are 3?? versions depending on year of manufacture.

liek rob said, search, there is a ton of tech on this. to get the tacho to work, you have to be pretty determined.

the good news is, all the wiring is there already.

As you probably see during your searches, it is possible to tap into the alternator to get a tacho reading.

I have done this with my own 80 series (also a poverty pack) and have a 2" tacho and oil pressure gauge sitting on the front side pillar.

I haven't confirmed the tacho is 100% accurate, but it's definately within ball-park (tells me I'm doing about 2200 - 2300 revs at 100Km with 285 tyres)

Tom can you elaborate on how to actually do this. eg what wires where etc. I've searched through I don't know how many threads but all I can find is discussions on getting the signal from the alternator but not one about how to do it.

Wondering if it could be a cheap fix to get the factory tacho back in my 1HDT 80 with a 1hdfte conversion.

Can't find anyone locally who has any knowledge of getting tacho working from ECU and those far far away who have done it won't share any info. That might be understandable but frustrating when I'm never in the market to get or not get a conversion off them but definately in the market to get an adaptor or such to get tacho going.

So maybe alternator is next best option.

Yeah pics would be great. Do get to Brissy on occassion but not sure when next otherwise pics will hopefully be enough. Not even sure if alt will get reasonable trigger to factory tach anyway but it's a start.

Id be interested to hear how your Gas injection goes.. I was contemplating doing it to my 1HZ with Denco turbo. Place at the sunchine coast does em for $2,900 then I get $2000 cash back from that so for $900 out of pocket expenses its looking attractive.

I did a dash cluster swap too but got the fuel pump rebuilt and they changed the housing over to one with the tacho sender in it so was all sweet for me. Still got to get around to hooking up a switch so I can get a fuel reading on both tanks as I didn't go with the roof mounted sub gauge.
